(16) Background: National Institutes of Health (NIH), Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD), Research Animal Medicine Branch (RAMB) needs high flow filter cartridges in the aquatic facility to maintain optimal water quality. The RAMB directs the program of laboratory animal care and use for NICHD's Division of Intramural Research (DIR). The RAMB also provides animal research support services to NICHD investigators and represents the interests of NICHD on all aspects of animal research.
(17) Description of the Requirement: A standing order for High flow filter cartridges is needed in the aquatic facility to maintain optimal water quality by filtering the water prior to it being deposited into the fish tanks to ensure no contamination occurs that would jeopardize the health of the animals and research data.
These filters are a critical component for biosecurity to ensure debris and embryos do not slip through and end up in a tank causing genetic contamination.
Failure to change these filters would result in compromised water quality and water pressure, resulting in the loss of research animals.
It is critical to the success of the contact that the contractor has a sufficient supply chain network and working relationship with the manufacturer of the high flow filters to effectively acquire and deliver these filters in the required time frame to ensure there is no risk that the Government facility has a lapse in coverage during the performance period. Any inconsistency in the delivery time-frame if a disruption or failure in the acquisition and delivery of these filters were to occur would have a negative impact on the integrity of the research of the facility, the welfare of the animals, the continued ability of the current filtration system equipment to operate optimally, and the preservation of the longevity of the system itself. Due to the frequency of usage and importance of these filters it is imperative the needed filters be acquired to keep up with the facilities change schedule to ensure there are no lapse coverage.
The Contractor shall deliver 600 High Flow Cartridges/Filter Elements, with the following specifications: 6" Diameter, 40" Length, 20 Micron, Silicone Gasket, Polypropylene Construction, Pleated. The Contractor shall deliver 25 Cartridges/ Filters 2 times per month, for a total of 24 shipments across a 12-month (One-year) period.
