About this file
This is a Combined Sources Sought Notice and Notice of Intent to Award a Sole Source Contract for a high band current measuring amplifier from the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). NIST's Biophysical and Biomedical Measurement Group is conducting market research to identify alternative vendors capable of meeting requirements for a multi-channel high bandwidth amplifier for single molecule biodosimetry research. The required system must be a 4-channel low-noise, high bandwidth current measurement platform capable of 1 MHz data acquisition on all four channels simultaneously, with full compatibility with quartz nanopipette and membrane-based nanopores. The system must integrate with existing Chimera VC100 measurement systems and support NIST's existing software workflows. The turn-key system must include a measurement head stage, Faraday cage, digital acquisition unit, and software. Chimera Instruments LLC (UEI: HG45KZFR4JC9) is currently identified as the potential sole source vendor, though NIST remains open to competing sources.
Interested vendors must submit responses by August 5, 2026, via email in Microsoft Word, Adobe PDF, or Microsoft Excel format. Responses should include company summary information (name, address, UEI, SAM.gov registration status, and size standard relative to NAICS code 334515), feedback on draft requirements to improve clarity and competitiveness, product and service specifications with manufacturer details and country of origin, standard commercial pricing and terms, compliance capability with FAR Clause 52.219-14 for small business set-asides, and information on existing federal contract vehicles such as GSA Multiple Award Schedule contracts. The Product Service Code is 6640 and the NAICS code is 334515. This notice does not obligate NIST to award a contract, and responses do not constitute adequate submissions for any subsequent formal solicitation that may be published on SAM.gov or GSA eBuy.

Combined Sources Sought Notice and Notice of Intent to Award a Sole Source Contract for High Band Current Measuring Amplifier
Notice ID: NIST-SS26-163
Contract Opportunity Type: Sources Sought Notice of Intent to Sole Source
Response Date: August 5,2026
Product Service Code (PSC): 6640
NAICS Code: 334515
BACKGROUND
The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) is conducting market research to identify alternative sources that (a) are capable of meeting NIST’s minimum requirements for the following commercial products and commercial services and (b) would be interested in competing for that requirement:
The Biophysical and Biomedical Measurement Group within the Microsystems and Nanotechnology Division of the Physical Measurements Laboratory will acquire a multi-channel high bandwidth amplifier for its single molecule biodosimetry program. We require a measurement amplifier with multiple recording channels and full compatibility with both quartz nanopiette and membrane-based nanopores. Hardware must also be compatible with existing measurement systems (Chimera VC100) to maintain a simplified interface between in-house developed flow cells between instruments. Furthermore, the application software must be compatible with existing work-flows developed at NIST.
NIST requires a 4-channel low-noise, high bandwidth current measurement system for voltage-clamp measurements of ionic current flow through manufactured nanopores. The system will be used to study structural fluctuations of radiation damaged DNA while confined in a nanoporous environment, which requires data acquisition of at least 1 MHz. on four channel platform. The vendor shall supply a turn-key measurement amplifier system with associated hardware including measurement head stage, Faraday cage, digital acquisition unit and software.
NIST has not yet determined its acquisition strategy for this requirement and encourages interested sources to respond to this Notice.
If NIST’s market research indicates there are alternative sources that are capable and interested in competing to fill this requirement, separate and apart from Chimera Instruments LLC, UEI# HG45KZFR4JC9 then NIST will consider conducting a competitive acquisition in accordance with law and regulation. To be clear, NIST’s identification of Chimera Instruments LLC in this Notice does not constitute a binding commitment or obligation for it to conduct a sole source procurement with Chimera Instruments, LLC for this requirement.
INSTRUCTIONS FOR RESPONDING TO RESPOND TO THIS NOTICE
Parties that respond to this Notice are requested to voluntarily submit the requested information via email in Microsoft Word, Adobe PDF, and/or Microsoft Excel format to the designated point(s) of contact whose name and email address appears at the bottom of this notice. Please provide only the information requested by this Notice, and do not include proprietary, classified, confidential, or sensitive information in a response to this Notice.
Information Requested in Response to This Notice: To help NIST with its market research, NIST is requesting that industry sources carefully review this notice and any attachments to it and voluntarily provide the following information:
1. Company Summary
· Notice Identification: Notice ID and Title of this posting.
· Corporate Details: Company name, physical address, website address, and Unique Entity Identifier (UEI).
· Point of Contact (POC): Name, phone number, and email address.
· Company Size Standard: Your company’s size status relative to the NAICS code provided in this Notice. (Refer to the SBA Table of Small Business Size Standards).
· System for Award Management (SAM) Registration: Indicate whether your company has an active registration for procurement purposes in SAM.gov.
2. Feedback for Draft Requirements
· Review the potential requirements/minimum specifications included with this Notice. Then, please provide suggestions to (a) improve clarity of it; (b) to make it more competitive; (c) to indicate whether there anything in it that may inadvertently exclude domestic involvement; and (d) to indicate how the requirements could potentially be revised to improve the ability for domestic (“Made in America”) end products to be considered.
