About this file
This document is a Statement of Requirements (SOR) for the AFJROTC CoDrone 1.0 program. The key details are:
The SOR outlines the requirements for the CoDrone EDU Drone JROTC Edition, which includes a package of 10 drones with specific capabilities such as multiple frequencies, sensors, programmable lights/sounds, compatibility with Windows computers, swarm capability, and a smart controller. It also includes requirements for an Aerial Drone Competition Field Basics Kit and Aerial Drone Competition Challenge Game Elements Kit.
The SOR also details the student classroom drone curriculum, which includes learning objectives around drone assembly, flight simulation, line-of-sight and tethered flight, and first-person view flight instruction. Training for AFJROTC instructors on the curriculum, building, coding, and flying of the drones is required.
The products must be brand new, with standard commercial warranties provided. Delivery is required to JROTC units on an on-demand basis within 5 working days of request.

Statement of Requirements (SOR) AFJROTC CoDrone
1.0 OBJECTIVE. The mission of Air Force Junior ROTC is to "develop citizens of character dedicated to serving their nation and community." The program achieves this through classroom education in air and space fundamentals and hands on learning opportunities in a number of fun and challenging extra-curricular activities. Without these critical tools and full support of the other extra-curricular activities use by AFJROTC, the program becomes “classroom only”, likely result in a decline in enrollment. Additionally, since this type of challenging, fun, and innovative learning tool is what truly draws new cadets into AFJROTC, many recruiting opportunities will be lost at units that do not receive these items. The result will be a smaller number of high school students who are exposed to the Air Force.
2.0 DESCRIPTION OF REQUIREMENT.
2.1 CoDrone EDU Drone JROTC Edition (Package of 10 each) which includes:
- The controller and drones can use at least 15 different frequencies to allow at least 15 drones to fly in a classroom without signal interference.
- Sounds and Lights - end user can code the drone to perform certain lights and/or sounds when certain conditions detected by the sensors exist. For example, the user can code lights and sounds when the drone detects an obstacle or fly above a certain height.
- Each drone has the following seven real-time sensors. These sensors can be accessed from code and used to detect information about their environment.
-- Accelerometer - sensing the drone's acceleration.
-- Gyroscope - sensing the drone's rotation.
-- Barometer - sensing the drone's height and air pressure.
-- Front range - sensing obstacles in front of the drone.
-- Bottom range - sensing the drone's distance from the ground.
-- Color - for sensing the color of the surface under the drone.
-- Optical flow - for sensing the drone's relative position during flight.
- Programmable LED lights
- Programmable sounds (drone buzzer)
- Use of Blockly and Python Programming Language
- Compatibility with windows computers with USB port.
- Radio Signal Communication
- Aerial flipping capability.
- Swarm capability
- Flexible propeller guards to protect propellors
- Must be able to replace propellers, motors and shells as parts are damaged.
- Drone must be approved for the Aerial Drone Competition held by Robotics Education and Competition (REC) Foundation.
- Smart Controller with
-- Programmable LCD Screen -- Must read real-time sensor data -- Must be fully programable to be able to use own codes, draw sensor data and create applications.
-- Programmable sounds (controller buzzer) -- Battery powered controller.
-- The controller and drones can use at least 15 different frequencies to allow at least 15 drones to fly in a classroom without signal interference.
- CoDrone EDU Power Pack (Battery Charger, Batteries(x2), Micro USB cable) which includes:
-- Dual-Battery Charger: charge two batteries simultaneously. Must fit CoDrone EDU drone.
-- Include 2 Rechargeable Batteries per pack that are compatible with CoDrone EDU drone.
-- Each battery needs to provide up to 8 minutes of flight time or more.
-- Batteries need to recharge in 60 minutes or less.
-- Include micro-USB cable for power supply.
- Spare Propeller Set of 4 propellers, 2 clockwise, 2 counterclockwise. compatible with above listed drone.
- Color Landing Pads which include:
-- 8 individual colors for different landing zones (Red(x6), Yellow(x6), Green(x6), Blue(x6), Purple(x6), Pink(x6), White(x6), Black(x6)) per bundle.

2.2. Student Classroom Drone Curriculum
2.2.1 Contractor will provide curriculum that prepares students for safe and responsible drone operations, no matter the skill level of the student. Topics shall include, as a minimum, the uses of drones in industry and recreation, safety regulations and laws, and flight basics. Course to be taught from any electronic device for individual student use. Curriculum shall, as a minimum, be a multi-step learning process as listed below.
2.2.1.2 Build: At this level the students would learn about and assemble the drone, learn the flow of electricity and how it works throughout the drones themselves. Laws and Regulations will need to be taught along with who to coordinate with depending on the flight area.
2.2.1.3 Train: The second level would be with the flight simulator. Radio and flight controller programming occur here along with chemical makeup of batteries and how they affect the drone itself. Proper usage of drones in society along with rules and regulations is also taught.
2.2.1.4 Beginner flight: Line of sight and tethered flight occur at this step. Calibration of the drone parts such as motors, cameras, and sensors along with balancing of the payload need to be taught.
2.2.1.5 Competition: First Person View flight instruction, along with flight angles and how a heavier than air object can fly. Finally the ability to race two drones through an obstacle course as the culmination of the lessons.
