The machine must feature Fine Grain Dianite casting material, linear shaft motors on X, Y, U, and V axes with linear glass scales (2 millionths absolute resolution), a U-V taper unit capable of cutting 15 degrees up to 8 inches with optional 45-degree capability, submerged and non-submerged machining capability, and a complete dielectric system with chiller and ion exchange deionizer. The machine must accommodate wire sizes from 0.004" to 0.012" diameters and support a maximum work piece weight of 1,100 pounds. It shall include an automatic wire threader, L-cut wire chopper, jumbo wire spooler, AC-Servo torque control wire tensioning system, and multi-tap transformer with line filtering. Travel requirements include X-axis minimum 15.5", Y-axis minimum 11.5", Z-axis minimum 8.5", and U/V axes minimum ±2.4" each. The machine shall achieve resolution of +/- 0.000004" minimum on all axes and positioning accuracy of +/- 0.00001" per 12 inches on X, Y, and Z axes.
The controller must feature a 19-inch touch screen color LCD, optical servo drive system using fiber optics, all-axis simultaneous machining capability, 2D-CAM programming with fully automatic roughing, corner control, entrance control, and short circuit control. The machine shall operate with AEDC's 480V, 3-phase, 60 Hz power system or include a step-down transformer, and include 1GB memory with Ethernet drip feed capability and conversational programming. The contractor must provide comprehensive documentation including operating instructions, electrical and mechanical manuals with schematics, parts listings, and recommended operational spares in two hard copies plus one DVD. A 24-month warranty against defects and a 10-year accuracy guarantee on the linear drive system are required, along with extended warranty options if available. Installation and acceptance testing shall occur at Building 451, West Shop at Arnold Air Force Base and include assembly, startup, and ISO/ANSI standard functional testing. Four days of formal on-site training shall be provided: two days for up to five operators (including 4-6 hours of conversational programming instruction) and two days for up to five maintenance workers on controls and mechanical maintenance. The contractor or representative must respond to repair calls within 36 hours on-site and deliver repair parts within 48 hours of order placement. Delivery is FOB Arnold Air Force Base, TN 37389, with all preservation, packaging, and installation costs included in the machine cost.
