SUBTASK 1 TOTAL:

Subtask 2: Archeological Services

Project Understanding:

DRMP and their sub-consultant Chronicle Heritage understands that the Florida Division of Historical Resources (DHR) requested a cultural resources assessment survey and noted the presence of site 8AL00494 within the Project area. Previous investigations of the site resulted in insufficient information to determine the eligibility of the site for listing on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) (DHR No. 2024-6937, dated January 9, 2025). Chronicle Heritage will apply for a 1A-32 permit to conduct archaeological research on the state lands encompassing the Project area. In accordance with 1A-32 permit requirements, Chronicle Heritage will also conduct background research to prepare a Research Design to be included with the permit application.

Chronicle Heritage anticipates fieldwork to include shovel testing within the approximately 1.9-acre Area of Potential Effects (APE), which was designed to encompass the proposed improvements with a buffer of approximately 10 meters (m) (33 feet [ft]) (Figure 1). Cultural resource tasks will satisfy the requirements of Chapter 1A-46 of the Florida Administrative Code.

All project tasks will be undertaken per the Florida DHR Module 3, Guidelines for Use by Historical Preservation Professionals (2003). Chronicle Heritage will conduct the following tasks:

Subtask 2A: RESEARCH DESIGN AND 1A-32 PERMIT

Description: Prior to ground disturbing project activities, Chronicle Heritage will apply for a 1A-32 permit to conduct archaeological research on state lands. In accordance with 1A-32 permit requirements, Chronicle Heritage will also conduct background research to prepare a Research Design to be included with the permit application.

Assumptions:

-32 permit.

-field kick off meetings, progress meetings, or work-in-progress update reporting is required. Such additional coordination can be provided on a time and materials basis through a separate cost proposal

Deliverable(s): The Consultant shall deliver: 1. Executed 1A-32 permit to conduct archaeological survey on state lands (.PDF)

Performance Measure: Deliverables shall be reviewed by the Department to confirm they are complete, accurate, and timely.

Schedule: Within 14 days of start of the project.

Subtask 2B: CULTURAL RESOURCES ASSESSMENT SURVEY

Description: Survey No. 439, conducted in 1977, and Survey No. 7469, conducted in 2002, both documented the presence of a multicomponent artifact scatter: Entrance Station Site (8LA00494).

Subtask 2A: RESEARCH DESIGN AND 1A-32 PERMIT

SUBTASK 2A TOTAL:

According to state site file records, there is currently insufficient information for the DHR to determine the NRHP eligibility of the site. The DHR has requested a CRAS of the project area (DHR No. 2024-6937, dated January 9, 2025), inclusive of a portion of this previously recorded resource. Chronicle Heritage anticipates the project area to have a high probability of containing cultural resources; therefore, fieldwork will entail shovel testing at 25 m intervals, with delineation shovel testing conducted within the APE limits at 12.5 m intervals.

Assumptions:

from adverse weather conditions that impact the scheduling, duration, or completion of fieldwork activities. In the event of weather-related delays, we will communicate promptly to reschedule and minimize any impact on project timelines to the best of our ability.

Deliverable(s): The Consultant shall deliver a summary of the assessment survey in .PDF.

Performance Measure: Deliverables shall be reviewed by the Department to confirm they are complete, accurate, and timely.

Schedule: Within 37 days of the executed 1A-32 permit.

Description: If artifacts or cultural materials are recovered during the survey, they will be transported to Chronicle the 1A-32 permit for curation with the BAR will be followed, including artifact cleaning, sorting, and conservation preparation, and complete artifact provenience data in Excel format.

Assumptions:

needed; this will be conducted as a separate fee and timeline with a revised delivery date for the report.
