PROJECT BACKGROUND

The City of Seat Pleasant (City) has received $270,000 from the Maryland Department of

Natural Resources Community Parks and Playgrounds Program to continue developing the

Fit & Fun Park. This funding award represents Phase III of the park’s development.

The overarching purpose of the park is to provide fitness and playground equipment, as well as exercise space. The undeveloped area of the park presents a unique opportunity to expand its amenities by adding a relaxing, environmentally conscious social seating hub away from the park’s physical activity space. Unfortunately, a stormwater drainage issue in this area has saturated the ground. This issue has also caused tree instability, including one tree that fell and narrowly missed a neighboring home. Other trees at the site are dead, dying and splitting due to ivy coverage. Dirt has been brought in as a temporary measure to absorb the water. However, this drainage issue must be addressed before a safe, environmentally conscious seating area can be designed for this location.

The firm’s scope of services shall include all services necessary to assess existing site conditions, recommend corrective actions, prepare design documents, and provide cost estimates. Work will include, but not be limited to:

• Soil evaluation and site stabilization recommendations

• Conceptual design for seating hub

• Preparation of plans, specifications, cost estimates, and implementation recommendations for the proposed improvements
