5.3.1 Work shall consist of:
Remove:
i. Remove existing sidewalk, regrade for new elevation, and trench for new downspout drain lines.
ii. Install new 4” thick by 4’-0” wide sidewalk with 3,000 psi concrete with 6x6 woven wire mesh, over 4” gravel and 6 mil vapor barrior.
iii. Construct a 6x6 wood retaining wall approximately 140 linear feet, field verified, on the south end of the building and extending 10’ north on each end, a minimum of 6” to 8” below ground using:
a) #2 grade southern yellow pine, severe weather ground contact pressure treated exterior wood protected with Copper Azole (CA-C) 6” x 6” boards
b) Tie backs at 10’-0” on center 4’ long with 12” diameter concrete tie down 30” below grade
c) Connect each layer to the layer below with 60d spikes at 3’0” on center or #5 rebar
iv. Install PVC boots with cleanouts on the three (3) downspouts on the south side of Building 222. The south west corner downspout and downspout on the center of the wall shall be connected to a new 10 inch diameter PVC horizontal drain line approximately 90 linear feet long. The south east downspout shall be connected to a new 8 inch diameter PVC horizontal drain line approximately 12 linear feet long. Each drainline shall be set in gravel underground and run below the new concrete sidewalk. The drain lines shall be sloped for positive drainage and run to the west and around building 222, culminating into a flared culvert with Rip Rap.
v. Install a galvanized culvert at the end of the downspout drain lines and attach to the new 10” diameter PVC drain line. Install 3” – 8” Rip Rap over geotextile material.
vi. Regrade the area on the east side of Building 222 next to the concrete pavement and entry door where ponding occurs to provide drainage away from the entry door and install a new area drain. New area drain to be connected to the existing 8” PVC drain line. The drain line shall be sloped for positive drainage.
vii. Install a 3’-0” drain trough between the new concrete sidewalk and new 6x6 retaining wall. This shall be constructed of 3” river stone over SHA approved Type 1 geotextile and a 4” perforated PVC drain pipe and drain into the existing trough as shown on the drawing. The drain lines shall be sloped for positive drainage.
viii. Adjacent to the 15’x30’ concrete pavement an area shall be excavated slightly to provide a drainage swale and directed to a new Contractor installed drain.
The new drain shall be similar to the existing drain and connected to the existing 8” PVC drain line. This area shall be covered in 3” to 5” Rip Rap over SHA approved Type 1 geotextile.
ix. All disturbed areas shall be re-seeded with K-31 grass seed and 2 inches of clean top soil.
Replace with:
I. SIDEWALK: The existing concrete sidewalk on the East side of the building shall be removed. This area shall be regraded for new elevation and trenched for new downspout drain lines. Install new 4 inches thick, 4'-0" wide by 98’-0" long (90' building length and new sidewalks 4' length on both sides connected on north and south sides) sidewalk with 3000 psi concrete with 6x6 w.w.m, over gravel and 6 mil vapor barrier.
II. 6x6 RETAINING WALL: Construct wood retaining wall using treated 6X6. Tie-back @ 10'-" OC @ 4'-0" long
• #2 grade southern yellow pine
• Severe Weather Ground Contact pressure treated exterior wood protected with Copper Azole (CA-C) that is suitable for burial or ground contact.
III. 2 DOWNSPOUTS (EAST SIDE): The downspout located in the center, and the one located on the left end side of the East facade of Building 222 & running toward the South; shall receive PVC boots with cleanout. These boots shall attach to the downspouts and connect to a new 6-inch diameter PVC horizontal drain line. The 6" diameter PVC drain line shall be placed approximately 16 inches underground, measured from the top of the new concrete sidewalk, and set in gravel. These drain lines shall be sloped for positive drainage and run 15 to 20 feet to the South and around building 222, culminating at the lowest point into a galvanized flared culvert with 3”- 8”Rip-Rap.
IV. 1 DOWNSPOUT (EAST SIDE): The remaining downspout shall have a PVC boot with cleanout and shall run into a new 8-inch PVC horizontal drain line, which will connect to the existing underground 6-inch PVC drain line; as shown on the drawing. These drain lines shall be sloped for positive drainage.
NOTE: All gutters shall be cleaned
V. Grass Seed: Disturbed areas shall be sodded or covered with 2 inches of clean topsoil and re-seeded with K-31 grass seed.
VI. CULVERT & RIP-RAP: Provide galvanized culvert end section to attach the 6" diameter PVC drain line at the end of the new downspout drain lines. Provide 3"- 8" Rip-Rap placed over geotextile material.
• The geotextile prevents migration of the fine soil particles through voids in the structure, distributes the weight of the armor units to provide more uniform settlement, and permits relief of hydrostatic pressures with the soils. SHA, Standard Specifications for Construction Materials, Section 921.09 Geotextiles AD TYPE 1

60d Spike @3'-0"OC & #5 Rebar
VII. PONDING: On the North side of Building 222, next to the concrete pavement and entry door, there is a large ponding area. This area shall be regraded to provide drainage away from the entry door and to have a new area drain connected to the existing 6-inch PVC drain line.
VIII. DRAIN TROUGH: Between the new concrete sidewalk and new retaining wall, an 8" wide High-Density Polyethylene (HDPE) Trench Drain with a 4" side outlet shall be installed along the length of the new retaining wall and the sidewalk. This shall be constructed with #57 wash 4" thick gravel over the textile felt, Standard Specifications for Construction Materials, Section 921.09 Geotextiles AD TYPE 1.
High-Density Polyethylene (HDPE) Trench Drains
IX. Run-Off Issue: On the North side of the building and adjacent to existing 15' x 30' concrete pavement drive way, there is a run-off issue. This area shall receive a 4’ wide by 30’ long area of rip rap next to the concrete. This shall be 3” to 8” Rip Rap over SHA, Standard Specifications for Construction Materials, Section 921.09 Geotextiles AD TYPE 1. The area shall be excavated to provide a drainage swale and direct the run-off into a new drain. The new drain shall be similar to the existing and connected to the existing 6 " PVC drain line.
X. DOWNSPOUT (WEST SIDE): The three downspouts on the west side of Building 222 shall be cleaned and connected to new "flex Drain Downspout Extensions;
similar to the photo below. Note: All gutters shall be cleaned
