2016 Funding Application Guidance General Prior to writing the 2016 funding application, applicants should carefully review the required recipient objectives in the Funding Opportunity Announcement (CDC-RFA-IP13-1302). The application and budget request should reflect the applicant’s ability to implement required objectives to achieve the goals described in the “Purpose” section of the announcement.

The Immunization Information System (IIS) Sentinel Site Project specifically aims to advance the use of IIS data and the current knowledge of the benefits and strengths of the IIS .In addition, the activities implemented within Sentinel Sites can strengthen the infrastructure of the IIS in the state/city it serves, and potentially be applied to other state/city IIS operations. The Sentinel Site Project examines vaccine use among children aged 0-18 years in the IIS Sentinel Site area, develops methodologies for IIS data analysis and evaluates IIS system functionality to identify best practices. The projects explored by Sentinel Sites often have broader implications for the IIS community, and introduce new and innovative ideas to IIS operations in the state

The project activities of the 2013-2017 IIS Sentinel Site FOA are as follows

· The submission of quarterly, record level Sentinel Site data to the Trends in Immunization Practice System (IIS-TIPS).

· Participation in the IIS Sentinel Site Data Sharing Committee

· The submission of four evaluation proposals that contribute to the advancement of knowledge of IIS system functionality, methods of IIS data analysis, and/or use of IIS data to support the immunization program and other vaccine stakeholders. Evaluation categories include: IIS-EHR interoperability, IIS System Functionality, Methods to assess vaccination coverage and vaccine use using IIS, and Use of IIS to support immunization program activities and other vaccine stakeholders.

· Three evaluation proposal submissions to peer review journals for publication

· Participation in Sentinel Site and Data Sharing Committee conference calls, as well as attendance at the Sentinel Site Face to Face Meeting yearly.

For 2016, the National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases (NCIRD) expects that the activities and performance measures in the applications will correspond with the Required Recipient Objectives identified under “Program Implementation” in the 2013 IIS Sentinel Site Project Funding Opportunity Announcement.

Travel for key staff to CDC-sponsored or co-sponsored meetings including the National Immunization Conference and the IIS Sentinel Site Face to Face Meeting are required as a function of this award and should be included in the budget.

The interim progress report, including budget and adjustments made to the initial Sentinel Site Project timeline should be submitted (no later than October 19, 2015) to LaTreace Harris in the Immunization Information Systems Support Branch (IISSB), apz9@cdc.gov, 404-639-8089.
