WORK ITEM 1: Deck Covering (Carpet), Renew

1. SCOPE

1.1 Intent. This work item describes the requirements for the Contractor to renew or replace existing deck covering system with Carpets (Single Level Loop Pile) in rooms/areas as listed in Table 1 (approximate __ square feet).

3. REQUIREMENTS

3.1 General.

3.1.1 CIR.

None.

3.1.2 Tech Rep.

Not applicable.

3.1.3 Protective measures. The Contractor shall protect non-affected vessel’s equipment, components, and spaces during surface preparation and coating application procedures, as specified in SFLC Std Spec 0000, paragraph 3.3.3 (Vessel component, space, and equipment protection), and abide by all applicable environmental protection tasks, as specified in SFLC Std Spec 0000, Appendix B (Requirements for Environmental Protection). Upon completion of work, remove and dispose of all installed protective measures, inspect for the presence of contamination, and return all contaminated equipment, components, and spaces to original condition of cleanliness.

3.1.4 Interferences. The Contractor shall handle all interferences as listed below in accordance with SFLC Std Spec 0000, paragraph 3.3.5 (Interferences). Known interferences include, but are not limited to the below listed:

· Furniture (e.g. cabinets, desks, tables, benches, and chairs)

· Vent systems (e.g. trunks, ducts, and pipes)

· Slip-resistant deck covering treads

· Drains, covers, and plugs

· Closures (e.g. doors, hatches, and scuttles)

· Outfits, foundations, and fittings

· Switches, controls, and terminals

· Sensors and supports (e.g. TLIs)

· Piping and supports

· Cables and supports

3.1.5 Work locations. The concerned work areas are listed in Table 1. See the Coast Guard Drawings in section 2 above for guidance, locations, and details.

3.1.6 Materials. The Contractor shall provide any new components, parts, materials, and paints with the same color, comparable and matching material properties as the existing components/parts. Use references in section 1, 2 and SFLC Std Specs 6310 and 6341 for guidance, required materials, and details.

3.1.7 Work plan. The Contractor shall provide a work plan for renewing Deck Covering System listed in the Table 1 to COR before or on arrival conference.

3.1.8 Notification. The Contractor shall give written notification to COR 48 hours before starting work on this work item.

3.2 Inspection. In the presence of the Coast Guard Inspector, the Contractor shall inspect of all exposed deck areas in Table 1 after removing/cleaning deck covering and prior to priming deck surfaces in accordance with SFLC Std Spec 0740. Submit a CFR.

3.2.1 Visual inspection (VT). The Contractor shall visually inspect all exposed deck areas in Table 1 for any pitting, corrosion, and erosion.

3.2.2 Pit. The Contractor shall measure __ pits (~1 pit/8-16 sqft.) on the exposed substrates as designated by the Coast Guard Inspector using a Contractor supplied ‘Pit Gauge’, if pitting is found during visual inspection. The results of these measurements should also be included in the inspection report showing where pit measurements were taken and the depth of the pit.

3.2.3 Ultrasonic test (UT). The Contractor shall take __ UT measurements (~1 UT/16-32 sqft.) on the exposed substrates as designated by the Coast Guard Inspector, in accordance with SFLC Std Spec 0740, Appendix C.

3.3 Substrate fairing and repair by filling Epoxy for shallow pits and small corrosions (i.e. pits < 25% or corrosions < 25%). As designated by the Coast Guard Inspector, the Contractor shall repair small pin holes, shallow pitted substrates (with remaining plate thicknesses over 75% of required plate thicknesses), and fair corroded substrates (with remaining cross sections over 75% of required cross section areas), after removing insulation, deck covering, or coating in accordance with SFLC Std Spec 6310, Appendix A (Cutter and Boat Exterior Painting Systems), "Metal Repair and Hull Smoothing", MIL-PRF-24176, and manufacturers’ instructions (approximate __ kits).

NOTE

“Substrate fairing and repair by filling Epoxy for shallow pits and small corrosions (i.e. pits < 25% or corrosions < 25%)” is a supplement barrier intending to help delay penetration.

3.4 Deck covering installation (Retain underlayment). The Contractor shall perform all tasks specified in SFLC Std Spec 6341 and follow manufacturers’ installation instructions, to install a new deck covering system in the locations listed in Table 1.

3.4.1 Removal. The Contractor shall remove and scrap all existing deck covering systems and loosing underlayments to expose but not damage existing underlayments. Disposal shall be in accordance with all local, state, and federal laws and regulations.

3.4.2 Bonding. The Contractor shall apply the boding coat (coming with underlayment kit) on the exposed surfaces of underlayment and feathered deck covering layers and let them dry for a day in accordance with manufacturers’ installation instruction/guideline in section 2.

3.4.3 Underlayment. The Contractor shall retain and repair existing underlayment from top deck covering removal. Fill in underlayment around damaged areas up to existing underlayments and flush with installed deck fittings. And, sand exposed underlayment to provide smooth surface free of irregularities (approximate ___ square feet).

3.4.4 Carpet. The Contractor shall apply Carpet (Single Level Loop Pile (42 Oz. Per Sq. Yd. Pile)) over new underlayment in accordance with SFLC Std Spec 6341, Appendix E and manufacturers’ installation instruction/guideline in section 2 above (Figure X).

3.5 Coving. The Contractor shall install coving around entire perimeter of the areas in accordance with SFLC Std Spec 6341. Unless otherwise specified, apply caulking compound at other corners.

3.6 Touch-up preservation, general. The Contractor shall prepare and coat all new and disturbed exterior and interior surfaces, as applicable, to match existing adjacent surfaces in accordance with SFLC Std Spec 6310, paragraph 3.1.13 (Touch-ups and minor coating repairs).

3.7 CFR. The Contractor shall summarize and submit a CFR to the Coast Guard Inspector if additional repair is necessary or required.
