DEPARTMENT OF THE ARMY

CAMPBELL ARMY AIRFIELD, FORT CAMPBELL

7163 H AVENUE

FORT CAMPBELL, KENTUCKY 42223-5617

IMCB-PLA 20 June 2018

MEMORANDUM FOR MICC S2P2 OFFICE

SUBJECT: Brand Name Letter for Campbell Army Airfield, Fort Campbell, KY FedBid Buy #

CAMPBELLAFLDTBE0003

1. Campbell Army Airfield is requesting to purchase a Herman Nelson all-in-one heat/power/light unit to fulfill the need for aviation ground support equipment to support loading/unloading and ground support operations of aircraft supporting the 101st Airborne Division, 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment (SOAR) and 5th Special Forces Group.

The Herman Nelson is the only all-in-one unit that was found to meet all the requirements for aviation operations providing adequate heat during cold weather conditions consisting of temperatures in single digits while providing light and power. This unit simultaneously provides lighting ensuring night time operations can be conducted safely. It provides adequate power to support other ground equipment used in loading/unloading of aircraft as well as power tools used for aircraft maintenance. No other comparable unit was found.

2. We recently purchased and received one of these units and need to purchase same brand for ease of use, maintenance and repair parts.

3. Extensive research was conducted to find a comparable all-in-one unit, but no products were found that support aviation operations.

4. For the reasons listed above, Campbell Army Airfield requests that a brand name purchase of Herman Nelson be authorized to fulfill the need for a critical heat/power/light unit to support loading/unloading and ground support operations of aircraft in support of the 101st Airborne Division, 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment (SOAR) and 5th Special Forces Group.
