Cable Box Upgrade Equipment
Requirements Document
For
704th Test Group/846th Test Squadron
2 Aug 2023
1.0 PURPOSE
The 704th Test Group (704 TG) mission is to be the premier provider of unique test and evaluation capabilities relevant to tomorrow’s warfighter through world-class people improving technical excellence, cost-effectiveness, and agility. The 846th Test Squadron (846 TS) is assigned to the 704 TG. The 846 TS operates the Holloman High Speed Test Track (HHSTT) and conducts various types of rocket sled testing.
The 846 TS is responding to the national need for weather effects testing utilizing ground-based rocket sleds. Upcoming sled test projects require utilization of an already developed rain-field. The cable boxes provide a protective enclosure for power, communications, and sensor cables, which ensure the rain-field remains operational. Recent testing has identified the current cable boxes fail from current sled testing that operate through the rain-field. This causes the cabling for the rain-field to constantly be exposed to the harsh desert environment. To ensure the rain-field remains operational, cable boxes need to be upgraded to box types that have been observed to not fail.
For reference in the following scope, the 846 TS rain-field is 6000 ft long, extending from 21,300 ft to 27,300 ft north of the start of the track. The rain-field is divided into fifteen 400-foot-long zones with 100 nozzles in each zone. A control skid located at each zone center controls the flow of water to the nozzles in that zone.
