1.1 BACKGROUND
The Lithium Battery Facility (LBF) Locker In-Service Engineering Agent (ISEA), Code 335, of the Naval Surface Warfare Center, Philadelphia Division (NSWCPD) provides configuration control and engineering oversight of the LBF lockers on U.S. Navy ships. Large-form lithium batteries have been in use on Navy ships for a variety of purposes. They have a high energy density and require specialized storage to ensure safe, reliable operation and use. Specialized lockers were designed for the storage and charging of these batteries. A total of 41 lockers were procured previously and placed on multiple ships. These lockers have since been removed due to multiple manufacturing defects. The 41 lockers comprise two shipsets, one (1) LHD shipset and one (1) LHA shipset. The LHD shipset consists of seven (7) BCSs, nine (9) 1x3 BSLs, and three (3) 1x4 BSLs. The LHA ship set consists of eight (8) Battery Charging Stations (BCS), nine (9) 1x3 Battery Storage Lockers (BSL), and five (5) 1x4 BSLs.
1.2 SCOPE OF WORK
The contractor shall (1) identify and (2) correct/repair the manufacturing defects in accordance with the government drawing package. The Government will provide the BCSs and BSLs for rebuild as Government Furnished Property.
