3.2.1 Remarks and general observations are particularly important in maintaining an accurate and meaningful record. Any unusual event occurring during the performance of the test shall be noted on the Data Sheet.

3.2.2 If space is not provided on the Data Sheet for recording certain data, it shall be recorded on

Supplemental Data Sheet, Section 7.0.

3.2.3 The Data Sheet(s) shall be completely filled in, dated, and signed. If certain data called for was not recorded, an entry should be made explaining the missing data.

3.2.4 Any substitution of components or equipment during the course of the test must carry complete documentation IAW Section 3.3.

3.2.5 All times shall be documented using 24-hour time convention notation using one of the following formats: ‘hh:mm’ or ‘hhmm’. (e.g. 09:23 or 0923)

3.3 DEPARTURES

3.3.1 No deviations from test methods specified, or changes in installation from approved plans shall be made without prior written approval from cognizant Lead Engineer, through the procuring Government agency as required.

3.3.2 Any changes to the specified tolerances will require NSWC PCD engineering concurrence.

Every effort shall be made to meet such tolerances. Where this is not possible, the NSWC PCD Cognizant Lead Engineer shall be consulted immediately, through the procuring Government agency, as required.

4.0 PREPARATION

4.1 PREREQUISITE AND CONCURRENT TESTS

5.0 PROCEDURE

5.1 TEST PREPARATION

5.1.1 Verify that the DIN Valve has been tagged QC acceptable and has been serialized IAW

Reference 2.2.2.

5.1.2 Operate the DIN Valve handle through its full range to verify that it is operating correctly.

5.1.3 If the DIN Valve is not operating correctly or is otherwise unacceptable, abort the test.

5.1.4 Lubricate DIN Valve O-Ring with MIL-PRF-27617 Oxidizer Resistant Grease.

5.1.5 Connect DIN Valve to DIN Valve Adapter or other suitable adapter.

5.2 CLOSED VALVE HYDROSTATIC TEST

5.2.1 Connect the DIN Valve/Adapter to the hydrostatic pump with the appropriate calibrated pressure gauge (Sec. 4.2.2.1) in line. Record DIN Valve serial number and the gauge calibration information on Data Sheet 1.

5.2.2 Close the DIN Valve and flood the system ensuring that all air is vented.

5.2.3 Pressurize the system to 6,000 +50/-0 psig. Record the test pressure on Data Sheet 1.

5.2.4 Hold the pressure for 5 +2/-0 minutes and observe the DIN Valve for leaks. Record the start time on Data Sheet 1.

5.2.5 No leaks are acceptable. If no leaks are present proceed to step 5.2.7. If leaks are detected, continue with step 5.2.6.

5.2.6 Release the pressure, check the system setup, and begin again with step 5.2.1 recording the results of the retest on a Supplemental Data Sheet (Section 7.0). If a leak is detected on the retest, record the results and abort the test.

5.2.7 Release the pressure and drain the water from the DIN Valve. Indicate the results, record the stop and duration times, and complete Data Sheet 1.

5.3 OPEN VALVE TIGHTNESS TEST

5.3.1 Connect the DIN Valve to the clean air supply with the appropriate calibrated pressure gauge (Sec. 4.2.2.2) in line. Record DIN Valve serial number and the gauge calibration information on Data Sheet 2.

5.3.2 Close the DIN Valve, pressurize the system to 4,000 +50/-0 psig, and secure the air supply.

Record the test pressure on Data Sheet 2.

5.3.3 Install a first and second stage diving regulator on the DIN Valve, fully open the DIN Valve and fully immerse the entire assembly in a container of clean water for 5 +1/-0 minuets.

Record the start time on Data Sheet 2.

5.3.4 Observe the water for escaping air. No leaks are acceptable. Record the results on Data

Sheet 2. If no leak is detected, indicate the results and record the stop and duration times on Data Sheet 2. If a leak is detected, record the results on Data Sheet 2and abort the test.

5.3.5 Remove the DIN Valve from the water, vent the air from the hoses, remove the DIN

Valve/Adapter from the test setup and complete the Data Sheet 2.
