STATEMENT OF WORK

Construction

1.0 CSRL Mission Statement

The USDA, ARS Range Management Research Unit Jornada Experimental Range mission is to produce new knowledge of ecosystem processes and new technologies necessary for sustainable agriculture in dryland agroecosystems, particularly arid and semiarid rangelands. Our unit links long-term, site-based research on natural resource management, innovative livestock production systems, and ecosystem restoration with national and global research on land monitoring and evaluation, analysis, and decision support tools. Our products support management of hundreds of millions of acres of U.S. rangelands, pasturelands, and croplands. Collaboration with the National Science Foundation, the Department of Interior, other USDA agencies, non-government organizations, producer groups, and many universities augment the in-house research program. International agreements extend the impact of our research to vulnerable drylands worldwide and enable discoveries that benefit U.S agriculture.

6.0 Layout/History:

Page 8 of

The existing well, from what we can determine, was drilled in the early 1900’s to a depth of around 500-510 feet. This well originally pumped using a windmill, but was converted to a solar submersible pump in the early 2000s. Historically, the water depth was found to be at around 430 feet. Over the last decade or so, it inconsistently provided water when pumped by a solar submersible pump drawing around 5-6 gallons per minute (production limited by pump capacity).

Recently, the well would pump only a little water and then shut down for a period of time before pumping again. We pulled the pump to replace it so we could eliminate the pump as the issue. When reinstalling the pump, we could no longer get all the joints of pipe back into the whole due to the bottom filling with sand\dirt. Installed was a Grundfos 6QSF3 pump and 24 joints of 1” pipe.
