Specifications Self-propelled Field Crop Sprayer – Columbia, MO Background The USDA-ARS Cropping Systems and Water Quality Research Unit (CSWQRU) conducts precision cropping systems research at the field scale. A key part of the research is controlling application of inputs (e.g., crop protection chemicals and liquid fertilizer products) according to experimental protocols, which often include a variable application rate from place to place within the field. Information regarding the (variable-rate) application must be recorded and mapped by tagging with GPS coordinates for subsequent analysis (as part of the process referred to as precision agriculture). The CSWQRU has standardized John Deere Greenstar technology to accomplish this in all field operations utilizing tractors, such as planting seeds.
