About this file

This is a Specifications document for a federal procurement by the USDA, Agricultural Research Service (ARS), Northwest Irrigation and Soils Research Laboratory (NWISRL) located in Kimberly, Idaho.

The procurement seeks one (1) automated push-probe soil sampler with the following key functional requirements: capable of collecting soil cores to a depth of 3 feet; automatically separating cores into three discrete samples by depth (e.g., 0-12, 12-24, and 24-36 inch increments) with no post-processing; compositing samples from multiple cores into a single container; and offering programmable sampling depth, sample interval, and number of discrete samples. The sampler must collect samples freely into open containers (not sleeves or tubes), with a sample tube inside diameter between ¾ inch and 1 inch. The equipment must include a hydraulic cylinder and hydraulic hammer, operate with a stand-alone approximately 5 horsepower engine, be mountable on a side-by-side vehicle, weigh no more than 300 pounds, complete a core collection cycle in less than 30 seconds, feature GPS capability to record sample locations, and provide operator controls accessible from the driver's seat. Delivery is required within 120 days after receipt of order (ARO) to USDA, ARS, NWISRL at 3793 North 3600 East, Kimberly, ID 83341. No additional requirements are specified.
