About this file
This is a Statement of Work for the procurement of a planting/harvesting tractor with forklift attachment for the USDA Agricultural Research Service (ARS) Potato Pathology program at the Tri-State Field Variety Research Unit (TTFVRU) in Prosser, Washington. The objective is to replace the program's current John Deere 2355 tractor from 1989 to reduce costly repairs and ensure proper execution of field trials and small plot research activities.
The contractor must provide a tractor meeting the following technical specifications: minimum 55 horsepower, 68-inch center-to-center wheel spacing, tire width not exceeding 14 inches, gear ratios enabling ground speeds below 1 mph (creeper gear capability), ROPS (Rollover Protective Structure), and capability to accommodate an Edwards Forklift mounted to the front. The tractor must be shipped to the TTFVRU point of contact, Kylie Swisher Grimm, at 24106 N. Bunn Road, Prosser, WA 99350. The Statement of Work provides an example specification for a 5067E Open Operator Station Utility Tractor with dual mid valves, mechanical joystick control, canopy, creeper gear, LED ROPS-mounted rear work lights, and modified tire specifications to meet width and weight requirements, though this is identified as an example rather than a brand-specific mandate.

Statement of Work
Planting/Harvesting Tractor
Title: Tractor for planting/harvesting with forklift attachment
Objective: Replacement of current planting/harvesting tractor, John Deere 2355 (1989), to minimize the cost of frequent repairs to old tractor
Background: The Potato Pathology program at the USDA ARS research site in Prosser, WA, conducts field trials each year to screen for disease-resistant potato clones and to improve our understanding of particular pathogens and pests that cause economically important damage to commercial potato grown in the region. In particular, the program maintains a field of
Paratrichodorus allius (stubby root nematode) infected with Tobacco rattle virus to enable mission-critical work screening germplasm from the Tri-State Breeding Program for resistance to the virus. In addition, the plant pathology program is working to generate other disease fields, including Spongospora subterranea infected with Potato mop-top virus and Meloidogyne chitwoodi (Columbia root knot nematode), in order to screen for resistance to these pathogens in the future and conduct controlled experiments. The field work conducted each year by the
Potato programs relies on decades old farm equipment that often requires expensive repairs.
We request a new planting/harvesting tractor to ultimately reduce cost associated with the old equipment and to ensure proper planting and harvest of the field trials and small plot research.
