About this file
This document is a specifications sheet for a Mercury Analyzer procurement. The government requires a single mercury analyzer instrument capable of measuring mercury content in soils, minerals, aqueous samples, and other materials to support research on mercury cycling in natural systems and food safety. The instrument will be used for experiments and field trials under an interagency agreement with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and for research on mercury mobility in U.S. environmental systems.
The technical requirements specify that the mercury analyzer must analyze a variety of sample types including soils, water, and plant tissues, with a mercury detection limit of 0.001 ng. The contractor must provide a one-year original factory warranty valid for twelve months from installation date and one day of user/operator maintenance training. Delivery is required to 10300 Baltimore Avenue, Building 001, Room 124, Beltsville, MD 20705 within 120 days of award. The contractor must also provide the manuals for the analyzer and ensure shipment in a sturdy package with sufficient packing material. No government property will be furnished to the contractor.

Specifications Mercury Analyzer
Background and Scope The item required is a Mercury Analyzer. This instrument will measure the amount of mercury in soils, minerals, aqueous samples, and other materials. This data is critical to understanding how mercury cycles in natural systems, including into plants like crops are part of the human food supply. This instrument is needed for a series of experiments and field trials for our interagency agreement with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, and it will also be particularly useful for research on mercury mobility in U.S. environmental systems that impact the safety of our food. This will provide tangible benefits for the U.S. EPA and also translate into increased food safety for the U.S. people through increasing understanding of how mercury moves in natural systems and how to prevent plant uptake of this toxic metal. This research closely aligns with the goals of my laboratory and our research group, in addition to being an essential resource for collaboration within the agency and with external research partners.
