Statement of Work Desert Visions Walk-in Cooler/Freezer

The central part of the Dietary Department revolves around the Walk-in Cooler/Freezer. The food that is purchased can be stored, kept frozen or chilled to prevent the growth of food borne bacteria. During the 120-day period for our patients, the Dietary Department provides 3 meals with 2 snacks for each patient daily. A refrigerator is one of the most important pieces of equipment in the kitchen for keeping foods safe. We are instantly reminded of its importance to our daily lives when the power goes off or the unit fails, putting our food's safety in jeopardy. Refrigeration slows bacterial growth. Bacteria exist everywhere in nature. They are in the soil, air, water, and the foods we eat. When they have nutrients (food), moisture, and favorable temperatures, they grow rapidly, increasing in numbers to the point where some types of bacteria can cause illness. Bacteria grow most rapidly in the range of temperatures between 40 °F and 140 °F some doubling in number in as little as 20 minutes. A refrigerator set at 40 °F or below will protect most foods.

Desert Visions (DV) Youth Wellness Center needs to repair the Walk-in Cooler/Freezer in building 100. The Walk-in Cooler/Freezer is extremely out dated and most components for the unit are unobtainable due to it being obsolete. Based on as assessment from a qualified HVAC technician, the following will take place:

1. Disconnect and remove the existing indoor evaporative section located inside of the walk-in cooler.

2. Disconnect the refrigeration piping from the cooler section of the existing condensing unit.

3. Furnish and install a new condensing unit serving the walk-in cooler. This unit will sit next to the existing condensing unit. Pueblo Mechanical will try to make all of the connections they can on the new system while the existing condensing unit serving the freezer stays in operation.

4. Furnish and install a new indoor evaporative section located inside of the walk-in cooler.

5. Flush the existing refrigeration piping to make ready for the new equipment.

6. Reconnect the condensate drain piping to the new inside unit.

7. Connect the existing cooler refrigeration piping to the new cooler equipment.

8. Pull a vacuum on the system and install the proper charge of refrigeration.

9. Remove the existing 30-amp double pull breaker and install a new 30/20 breaker. This will give the required power to install the new unit.

10. Remove the existing distribution panel located outside by the condensing units and install a new distribution panel sized to handle the new equipment. Pueblo Mechanical will mount the new panel and try to make all of the connections that they can before taking the equipment offline to make the new connections.

11. Reconnect the existing freezer condensing unit as well as the new walk-in cooler condensing unit to the new distribution panel.

12. Reinsulate the existing suction piping located outside.

13. Start-up new equipment and check for proper operation
