About this file

This draft document details technical specifications for C-130J maintenance stands and accessories for Yokota Air Base in Japan, focusing on comprehensive iso (isolation) maintenance support infrastructure. The proposed stands include multiple specialized platform configurations for different aircraft sections, such as wing stands, fuselage stands, entry platforms, panel racks, wheel storage, and engine workbenches. Key design requirements include fall protection, corrosion prevention, technician accessibility, and adaptability for both short and long C-130J aircraft models, with specific considerations like 57-inch crew entrance door height, 31-inch door width, adjustable propeller and engine maintenance access, and integrated electrical outlets for technician equipment.

The draft highlights the need for modular, versatile stands that can accommodate various maintenance tasks across different aircraft zones, including ground-level and elevated panel storage, wheel racks for nose and main landing gear, and ergonomic workstations near engine stations. The proposed design aims to improve maintenance efficiency, safety, and workflow by providing purpose-built platforms with features like removable guardrails, padded shelving, integrated electrical charging points, and configurations that allow aircraft towing without repeatedly relocating stands. The documentation suggests these stands will serve the Pacific Air Forces' maintenance operations, specifically at Yokota Air Base, which serves as the sole letter check inspection hub in the region.

(M)C-130J Iso Stands

DRAFT

(M)C-130J Iso Stands

We here at Yokota, AB are the sole Letter Check inspection Hub in PACAF. We inspect both MC-130J (Short) and C-130J (Long). DRAFT

C-130J Long

This is a photo of our C-130J (Long). It will require additional stands along the fuselage for our fall protection. The stand on this side of the aircraft is indicated by the arrow.DRAFT

Radome

Based on the rendering of the Maintenance stands for the C-130J Letter Checks. During the inspection process the radome is opened at all time, and we require access to this with stands installed. DRAFT

Wheel Racks

If we could have 2 each wheel racks added to the stands for the Nose Landing Gear wheels. This would make it safer for our technicians to work around, these wheels are removed for the entire letter check process.DRAFT

Panel Racks

On each wing we require padded panel racks for corrosion protection. We keep our panels for the wing area on the maintenance stand for time efficiency and safety measures to avoid taking the panels down the stairs, and having platforms to access the leading edge and ailerons is helpful.DRAFT

Our tail section will also require panel racks. Incorporating padded shelves under the platforms would be helpful and not take up space. DRAFT

Fuselage Stands

We need stands that are installed along the fuselage for our fall protection and ease of access. As seen in slide 5 we will need an extension to accommodate for the fall protection. This is a photo of a short.DRAFT

Main Landing Gear Door

Every Iso we are required to open both main landing gear doors. We utilize these stands to keep the doors open but majority of the time they are in the way. Can you add an adjustable drop down from the stand that can hold this door open.DRAFT

Aircraft Entry Platforms

We require platforms to access the Aircraft while it is fully jacked. We have 3 platforms for our 3 entry doorways, these are cumbersome to move around and a new matching set to the Stands within OSHA regulations would be helpful.DRAFT

The Crew entrance doors threshold is typically 57 inches from the ground. DRAFT

The crew entrance doors is 31 inches wide.DRAFT

The 2 entryways to the rear of the aircraft are typically 63 inches off the ground while fully jacked.DRAFT

C-130J (Long) Draft

Additionally, can you provide a draft of both the Long C-130J and the Short C-130J that includes the additional platforms needed for the Long model. DRAFT

The 2 entryways to the rear of the aircraft are 36 inches wide.DRAFT

Engines Work Bench

Additionally incorporating mounted work benches with a vice in front of each engine station to include a podium with an outlet to charge the technician's laptops for each engine. DRAFT

Ground Level Panel Racks

This is a good concept for the padded panel racks we require for the upper level of the stands. We would still require some shelving for the tail stand as well. And have padded shelves incorporated into the stands for the ground level.DRAFT

Ground Level Panel Racks

At the ground level we have numerous panels that are removed. To have shelves built into the stands at the wing tip level would help to declutter the additional floor space needed for these shelves.DRAFT

Main Landing Gear Wheels

We like this concept of the Nose Landing Gear Wheel racks. There are going to be occasions when we will need to remove the Main Landing Gear wheels and will require wheels racks for those 4 wheels.DRAFT

Main Landing Gear Wheels

We would like to have 2-wheel racks for the Main Wheels located near the wing tip area for both sides of the aircraft, so our technicians have access to the main landing gears for any required maintenance. DRAFT

C-130J (Long) Draft

Based on the size of the wing stands would it be possible to lower the stands low enough for the technicians to tow the aircraft over the stands and to have clearance between the propeller and the stand, provided the guard rails can be easily removed for this action. This would save time from having to relocate the stand every time we want to tow the aircraft.DRAFT
