3.6 Unless otherwise stated in the individual work items, prepare and coat all new steel, all existing steel surfaces identified to be cleaned and painted, and any paint system disturbed while accomplishing work items, in accordance with reference 2.2. Finish coat colors shall match those of the surrounding, unmodified area. In addition, all power tools used to prepare internal spaces for painting, such as staterooms, the bow thruster space, engine room, stern thruster rooms and Generator Rooms, shall be fitted with dust collecting equipment to keep air bourne contaminants to a minimum. This does not relieve the Contractor from using protective coverings on equipment in those spaces.

3.7 At no time will the ship be required to moor at any dock which has a water depth of less than that required to provide a minimum clearance of two (2) foot under the lowest underwater hull projection during the entire period for which the ship is at the Contractor’s facility.

3.8 Ship’s force will maintain a minimal presence during

accomplishment of work to these specifications. Their availability to operate ship’s equipment will be limited. Unless otherwise specified, provide a minimum of one working day prior notice for any equipment operations.

7.1. Accomplish all the following requirements for the entire systems listed in paragraph 3.0.

7.2. Remove all interferences necessary to complete the required work.

Interference is any structure, equipment, piping, bulkhead sheathing, overhead sheathing, cable, insulation, or other part of the ship which interferes with access to the ducting or equipment being cleaned.

After the work has been completed, restore the removed interference(s) to a condition equal to existing.

7.3. Prior to starting work, the contractor shall meet with the COR and discuss the work plan and schedule. The contractor shall walk through the systems with the COTR and show the locations and methods of gaining access to ducts and components for cleaning, and provide the day and time specific sections of the HVAC system will be inoperable. As changes occur in the schedule, the COR shall be advised.

7.4. Ducting. The following requirements apply to cleaning of heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning ducts.

7.4.1. Work shall be scheduled to minimize disruption of the

ships' HVAC system. Only one system shall be inoperative at a time. Restore all systems to full operation at the end of each work shift, except when work will continue immediately on another work shift.

7.4.2. The contractor shall use existing access openings in ducts to the extent practical. Where necessary, the contractor shall cut new accesses in the ducts for cleaning or inspection purposes. New access openings shall be sealed with new sheet metal covers, gaskets, and sheet metal screws (no rivets).

7.5. Ducts shall be cleaned of all grease, dirt, dust, lint, grit, debris, and other foreign particles by using a vacuum truck or separate contractor furnished fan. Dry ice cleaning of the systems is also acceptable. If dry ice blasting of system is utilized, contractor is to ensure that debris is not blown throughout the space or adjacent spaces. For either method, Augmentation by hand tools and degreasers may be required as necessary to clean the systems.

7.5.1. Using a high-vacuum truck or a high volume portable fan, pull a high-volume reverse air flow through each section of ducting.

While the high-volume air is being pulled through the ducting, the entire interior of the ducting shall be air blasted with a "skipper" hose delivering compressed air at a minimum of 125 psig.

7.5.2. Take necessary precautions and steps to ensure that ducting and components are not collapsed or otherwise damaged due to the excess vacuum created when pulling the reverse air.

22 Jan 2021

15121-3

7.5.3. If required to obtain the required air flow in

individual branch ducts, temporarily blank off the registers, terminals and other openings in other branch lines.

7.5.4. Portable units may be substituted for vacuum truck. The vacuum collection device must be of sufficient power to:

a) Render all areas being cleaned under negative pressure, such that containment of debris and the protection of the indoor environment are assured.

b) Remove dislodged debris from the ducting system.

c) Additionally, discharge of portable units must exhaust outside the ship's structure. All vacuum devices exhausting air outside the ship's structure shall be equipped with Particulate Collection including adequate filtration to contain Debris removed from the HVAC system. Such devices shall exhaust in a manner that will not allow contaminants to re-enter the ship or contaminate the ship's decks and structure. Release of debris outdoors must not violate any outdoor environmental standards, codes or regulations.

7.6. Clean all fans, filters, screens, coils, diffusers, dampers, mixing boxes, preheaters, heaters and other components in the specified HVAC system using degreasers and brushes as needed to remove all grease, dirt, dust, lint, grit, debris, and other foreign particles.

7.7. All dirt and debris accumulated during the performance of this work shall be removed from the ship daily. Areas worked in or traversed by contractor personnel and equipment shall be cleaned and left in good order.

7.8. Remove and replace all disposable filters with new ones equal to existing. Dispose of removed filters in accordance with applicable Federal, State and Local environmental laws and regulations.

7.9. For galley systems, clean and degrease all surfaces of the Gaylord hoods inside and out.

7.10. All specified ducting shall be inspected and accepted by the COR prior to reinstalling access openings or closing up the system.

7.11. The Contractor shall inspect all ductwork, fans, dampers, louvers, diffusers, pre-heaters, duct heaters, cooling coils, thermostats, and other components during cleaning operations for corrosion and for proper operation. Any required repairs or replacements found during inspection shall be provided to the Owner’s Representative as a condition report. The itemized cost of any repairs or replacements

22 Jan 2021

15121-4 shall be included. Major repairs and/or replacements shall be the subject of a change order.

7.12. The Contractor shall measure airflow (air volume and velocity measurement) throughout the galley, laboratories, and accommodation spaces ventilation systems after duct cleaning has been completed.

7.12.1. Ventilation system equipment, components, and ductwork that had been modified or moved in the course of inspections and cleaning shall be replaced or reinstalled, such that the entire ducting system has been reconstituted prior to taking airflow measurements.

7.12.2. Flow measurement, preparation of a ventilation system airflow measurement report, and system rebalancing shall be performed by personnel regularly engaged in the analysis of ventilation system airflow measurements in shipboard installations, and in conformance with Reference 2.2. If the Contractor does not normally engage in similar work, a subcontractor shall be hired.

7.12.3. The ventilation system airflow measurement report shall address the following:

7.12.3.1. Comparison of measured flows (volume and velocity)

against design flows as identified in the ship’s reference drawings, as well as the vendor’s assessment of industry standards for various types of spaces served by the systems.

7.12.3.2. Existing settings and locations of ventilation flow-control dampers shall be documented in some form (e.g., tabular entries and/or drawing mark-ups) and included with the report.

7.12.3.3. Recommended plans and procedures for rebalancing the systems, including prospective adjustments to fan speeds or blade settings, where possible, to achieve proper airflow to the various spaces.

7.12.3.4. The ventilation system airflow measurement report

shall be provided to the Owner’s Representative for approval.

7.12.4. Following approval of the report by the Owner’s Representative the Contractor shall rebalance the galley, laboratory, and accommodation air handlers and ducting end terminals such that the delivered quantity of air is ±10% of the quantity shown at each location in the approved ventilation system airflow measurement report. This will require the Contractor to adjust the balancing dampers in the existing ventilation ductwork.

7.12.5. Accomplish a final walk through of the specified systems with the COR to prove air flow readings. At this time balance dampers

22 Jan 2021

15121-5 are to be secured with sheet metal screws to prevent future tampering.

7.13. Accomplish a final walk through of the specified systems with the

COR to prove that all overheads and interferences are restored and that the effected spaces are clean.

7.14. Renew insulation damaged or removed during performance of work.
