Requirements: Must meet all requirements listed above and able to have all items delivered NLT December 11, 2026. Similar products would not meet the specifications of this specialized need. The limited brand name source for 3M AC-350 was determined based on evaluation of characteristics best-suited for a broad range of applications, high performance, and shortest production rates. 3M AC-350 is listed on the Qualified Products List (QPL) for both SAE AMS-S-8802 and SAE AMS3276, two common sealant requirements. Procurement of AC-350, therefore meets the requirements of a broad range of applications. Sealants meeting the above specifications were also sourced and trialed for adhesion on painted surfaces, specifically polysiloxane topcoat, which some applications require. AC-350 outperformed all sealants trialed in this application. The use of one product for multiple applications increases the efficiency of procurement, stock management, and utilization procedures. Documentation was sourced for multiple sealants which appeared on the QPL for SAE AMS-S-8802 and SAE AMS3276, and salient characteristics were compared, including tack free time and cure times. Testing was also conducted to confirm cure rates. Of those tested, AC-350 provided the fastest cure, which ultimately results in the shortest possible production rates when implemented. Additionally, common applications require the application of sealant onto primer (paint) before topcoat. The sealant must be allowed to set/cure before application of topcoat, however if the re-coat window of the primer is exceeded, additional labor is needed to prepare it for topcoat. Usage of the sealant with the shortest cure rate, therefore, reduces unnecessary labor. Use of a product that did not meet these criteria would impact our mission by negatively affecting final product quality, increasing avoidable surface preparation and procurement labor, and delaying component return to primary shops thereby affecting program completions.
