Brand-name Justification

FAR 6.302-1(c)(ii)(A)

1. Identification of the agency and the contracting activity, and specific identification of the document as a "Brand-name Justification" Agency: Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA)

Contracting Activity: DoDEA IT Procurement.

This is a brand-name justification.

2. Nature and/or description of the action being approved: This brand-name represents a portion of a parts listing that is brand specific. The brand-name parts peculiar to one manufacturer(s) are to be used based on compatibility with DoDEAs IT networking infrastructure.

3. A description of Supplies/Services required to meet the agency’s needs (including the estimated value): The specific parts are identified in Paragraph 5. Parts are listed individually;

however, when used collectively with other parts, they work seamlessly within the DoDEA network infrastructure. The brand-names have been listed to fully understand the specific part(s).

The estimated value is .

4. An identification of the statutory authority permitting other than full and open competition. The authority permitting acquisition of the requirement is based on a brand-name in accordance with Federal

Acquisition Regulation (FAR) 6.302-1(c)(ii)(A). Only a portion of the acquisition is for a brand-name product or item peculiar to one manufacturer, the justification and approval is to cover only the portion of the acquisition which is brand-name or peculiar to one manufacturer.

5. A demonstration that the proposed contractor’s unique qualifications or the nature of the acquisition requires use of the authority cited. The brand-name parts identified in this paragraph have been previously vetted under previous task orders and are compatible with DoDEA’s network infrastructure. The use of other parts would create interoperability/compatibility issues within the

DoDEA network.

Cisco hardware

The Cisco electronic devices identified are required to meet DoDEA’s enterprise, infrastructure compatibility requirements. These components are part of an enterprise Voice over Internet Protocol

(VoIP) solution. To meet data security and zero-trust requirements, the solution must be compatible with the existing DoDEA infrastructure. The accessory items are components for, or attached to the primary electronic devices (routers, VoIP phones). The accessory components have been selected to ensure the primary electronic devices warranty is not compromised and that compatibility standards are maintained.

All Cisco parts are warranted through their associated manufacturer, Cisco.
