Brand name justification:
Roche reagents and supplies are designed, manufactured, and assembled by Roche to work with their custom sequencing enrichment oligos which enrich samples for viral targets to be sequenced on Illumina’s sequencing platforms. Failure to provide the correct supplies can critically harm the samples and leave the custom enrichment panel worthless. These are patient derived samples which cannot be replicated, so the loss of sample could mean the loss of data and a total loss of research items and samples, some of which have taken years to collect.
As described above, Roche has designed and manufactured library preparation reagents to specifically work with their enrichment panels. Failure to use Roche’s kits and supplies could compromise the samples within the lab as enrichment would not be able to be performed and sequencing data would be compromised as it will be all host sequences rather than the desired and enriched viral sequences, thus greatly driving up the cost for sequencing to obtain enough depth to detect viral transcripts amongst all the host transcripts.
