About this file

This document is a Justification and Approval (J&A) for the use of other than full and open competition for the award of a firm-fixed price contract for Bergen Engine parts in support of the USNS KANAWHA (T-AO 196) ship.

The Military Sealift Command (MSC) has a requirement for Ship's Service Diesel Generator (SSDG) 80K Overhaul parts and components manufactured by Bergen Engine, with an estimated combined dollar value to be funded using fiscal year 2024 Navy Working Capital funds. The statutory authority permitting other than full and open competition is 41 U.S.C. 1901, which allows the use of Simplified Acquisition Procedures for acquisitions greater than the Simplified Acquisition Threshold but not exceeding $7.0 million. The Contracting Officer has determined the anticipated cost to be fair and reasonable. The J&A will become null and void if MSC determines that Bergen Engine services and material are no longer required.
