DEPARTMENT OF THE ARMY

HEADQUARTERS, 6TH RANGER TRAINING BATTALION

6069 WALKERS LANE

EGLIN AFB, FL 32542

ATSH-RBF 09 December 2017

MEMORANDUM FOR MICC S2P2 Office

SUBJECT: Brand Name Letter for 6th Ranger Training Battalion, #901910

1. The 1999 GAO supports the use of the Motorola network as a safety measure. If this is not funded, the 6th RTBn will be in violation of a 1995 Congressional mandate for Ranger

Instructors to be able to communicate with Eglin AFB emergency services during remote training operations along the Yellow and Shoal River to the bay. The current contractor is the only communication company that has a Satellite/repeater attached to the tower on Eglin AFB.

This Satellite passed all the required tests for the installation and operations from Eglin AFB.

2. Alternatives for this contract are severely restricted due to the already established communication infrastructure on Eglin AFB. Without using the pre-established communication network, we would be required to create an entirely new infrastructure. If we were to forgo the service we would not be meeting the requirements set forth under the 1999 GAO report and could be placing Ranger Students and Cadre’s lives in jeopardy.

3. For the reasons list above 6th Ranger Training Battalion request that a brand name purchase of Motorola SRX2200 UHFR1 Model 3 portable radio with supporting configuration settings and equipment; Software Trunking 9600BAUD AN; ENH Astro 25 OTAR w/ Multikey;
