If approved, the contractor must provide a certified and inspected backflow preventer per Washington State and JBLM standards. Excavate the area to accept the subbase. Haul excavation off Post. The subbase shall be 4" thick, ¾" minus crushed rock compacted to a 95% of the Proctor Test under the concrete placement area.
2. Install a 4" actual depth of4000 psi @28 day strength and a 5-7% air entrainment exterior with 3" +- 1" slum p concrete upon the prepared subbase. Pumped concrete may use an increased slump as recommended by the concrete manufacturer. Use a concrete vibrator to consolidate concrete. The concrete sha ll have 4x4 woven wire mesh
(wwm) installed in the middle of the slab thickness, supported and tied to concrete
"dobie" bricks. Allow 2" clearance from the end of the wwm to the concrete edges.
Chamfer all exposed concrete edges both vertical and horizontal to prevent injuries from cuts and scrapes Overlap of wwm sheets or rolls shall be staggered 2" in each direction. All concrete shall be formed. Use non-toxic form release agent on forms. Slope concrete to drain as recommended by the court tile manufacturer. Provide crack control joint s in square pattern and as required by the contract or to prevent uncontrolled concrete cracking. Saw cut joint s shall be made after sur face water has disappeared and to eliminate any raveling usually 5-8hours after placement. Any uncontrolled concrete cracking shall be the responsibility of the contractor to fix at no additional cost to the
Government. Use opaque nontoxic concrete curing compound (white). Allow 21 calendar days of curing before installation of tile. Clean concrete just before installation ion of tile court per manufacturer instruct ions.
3. Area of concrete shall include Official NBA playing area (94' X50') and out of bounds of two feet around and as per tile court manufacturer's recommendations. Concrete court edge should be 1 inch above ground level. Slope 1 inch edge gradually
(approximately1/4"/foot) to existing grade using crushed gravel border. See TE-3 typical cross section attached.
4. JBLM specific design standards for concrete are listed in the applicable paragraphs below. The contractor may request the JBLM Design standards for concrete for informational use only, not as part of the contract. Submit the request to the MICC Contracting Office.

Indicate placement schedule, construction, location and method of forming control joints. Include locations of inserts, conduit, sleeves and other embedded items. Submit form removal schedule indicating element and minimum length of time for form removal.” As appropriate for this scope of work.
6. Maximum Allowable Construction Joint Spacing shall be in accordance with the requirements of JBLM Design Standards/UFGS Section 03 30 00 Paragraph 3.11.1.1b which states “In slabs on ground, so as divide slab into areas not in excess of 111.5 meter (1,200 square feet).”

Reinforcement must be continued and developed across construction joints. Locate construction joints as follows;
Maximum Allowable Construction Joint Spacing…
In slabs on ground, not in excess of 1,200 square Feet.
7.2 Construction Joints for Constructability Purposes;
At top of slabs on ground
Provide keyways at least 1-1/2 inches deep in construction joints in slabs, or approved bulkheads may be used in slabs.
7.3 Isolation Joints in slabs on Ground;
Provide isolation joints at points of contact between slabs on ground and vertical surfaces. Fill joints with premolded joint filler strips ½ inch thick, extending full slab depth. Install filler strips at proper level below slab surface with a slightly tapered, dress and oiled wood strip temporarily secured to top of filler strip to form a groove not less than ¾ inch in depth where joint is sealed with sealing compound and not less than ¼ inch in depth where joint sealant is not required. Remove wood strip after concrete has set. Clean groove of foreign matter and loose particles after surface has dried.
7.4 Construction Joints in Slabs on Ground.
Under and on exact line of each control joint, cut 50% of welded wire reinforcement before placing concrete. Sawcut contraction joints into slab on ground in accordance with ACI (American Concrete Institute) 301, Section 5. Sawcutting wil be limited to within 12 hours or as required to prevent concrete raveling after set and at ¼ slab depth.
