About this file

This is a Performance Work Statement for annual preventive maintenance and calibration services for a MALDI Biotyper Sirius instrument (Serial Number: 186514241589) located at NAMRU SOUTH in Lima, Peru. The Bacteriology Department at U.S. NAMRU SOUTH utilizes this equipment to analyze samples collected from multiple hospital sites in Lima and Iquitos, Peru, as well as from Soto-Cano Base in Honduras, under IRB-approved protocols including NAMRU6.2017.0012 and NAMRU6.2013.0024. The MALDI Biotyper Sirius system is essential for performing molecular biology and immunology research and provides rapid identification of antimicrobial resistance by detecting both positive and negative ions, supporting the department's research capabilities in identifying patterns of drug-resistant pathogens.

The scope of work requires annual preventive maintenance and calibration services to ensure continuous proper operation of the equipment in accordance with manufacturer guidance and to maintain NAMRU SOUTH's research capabilities at the forefront of antimicrobial resistance detection. The service must be performed at the Lima, Peru location. The related federal contract opportunity is Solicitation Number BAC260003, issued by the Department of the Navy Naval Supply Systems Command, with the contract type listed as a Special Notice for Bruker MALDI-TOF Equipment Maintenance.

STATEMENT OF WORK

The Bacteriology Department U.S. NAMRU SOUTH collects large number of samples to identify patterns in drug resistant pathogens. Samples come from multiple Lima and Iquitos hospital sites as well as from other collaborating sites, such as Soto-Cano Base in Honduras, NAMRU SOUTH IRB approved protocols such as NAMRU6.2017.0012; NAMRU6.2013.0024. Performing analysis and tests under mentioned protocols to be able to perform work in molecular biology and immunology is a must.

The following instrument requires annual preventive maintenance and calibration service:

Acquiring the MALDI Biotyper Sirius system in FY24 was significantly enhancing NAMRU SOUTH's research capabilities, as it incorporates the application of antimicrobial resistance detection. Having this equipment in our laboratory enable us to detect both positive and negative ions—a fundamental mechanism for rapidly and accurately identifying resistance to antimicrobial groups of interest. This process currently relies on molecular biology techniques in various study protocols within the Department of Bacteriology.

Day-to-day laboratory operations streamlined thanks to a LED strip on the front casing, allowing for a visual check of the system's status from anywhere in the laboratory—thus saving time.

Conclusion: Purchasing maintenance service for this instrument will make sure equipment does not lack care and its functioning no problems will continue keep NAMRU SOUTH at the forefront of research, aligning with one of the institution's key objectives.”
