About this file
This statement of work outlines a project to replace the concrete patio at the West residence quarters at Cibola National Wildlife Refuge in southwest Arizona. The existing 17' x 18' patio slab has severe cracking and spalling due to chemical reactions between the steel rebar and concrete. The project scope involves demolishing the existing slab except for the exterior six inches, installing a new 3" minimum 2000psi concrete slab with wire mesh above grade, and placing an expansion joint between the new and remaining slabs. Upon completion, the contractor must clean the entire site of all waste and debris. The related federal contract opportunity is solicitation number 140F1B23Q0020 for Quarters Patio Construction through the Department of the Interior Fish and Wildlife Service.

STATEMENT OF WORK
Cibola National Wildlife Refuge (NWR) Southwest Arizona National Wildlife Refuge Complex (NWRC)
Quarters Patio Construction Cibola, Arizona
June 2023
BACKGROUND SUMMARY/NEED
Cibola NWR is a remote station located in southwestern Arizona managing over 18,000 acres along the Lower Colorado River. The refuge maintains two residences for refuge staff and volunteers – East and West Residences. The West residence’s exterior concrete patio, enclosed by an Arizona room, has severe cracking and spalling due to chemical reactions between the steel rebar and concrete and needs replacing to provide residents with a safe and accessible exterior patio surface.
PROJECT DESCRIPTION/SCOPE
The West residence concrete patio is approximately 17’ x 18’. The refuge would like to demolish the existing patio slab and replace with a new concrete slab.
Scope of Work:
1. Demolish existing concrete patio slab: remove all but the exterior 6 inches of the existing concrete slab. This will avoid having to disassemble and then reassemble the existing screened porch structure that sits on the existing exterior concrete patio slab.
2. Install new concrete slab: Exposed existing grade to be raked, leveled and compacted. Contractor to install a 3” minimum, low-corrosive, 2000psi minimum concrete slab with turned down perimeter edges. Concrete slab to include a 10-guage steel wire mesh raised above grade on rebar/mesh chairs. Install expansion joint material between the remaining 6-inch slab perimeter and the new slab.
3. Upon completion of project (and before staff final walkthrough) contractor is to rake and clean entire site of all project waste/debris.
