06/16/2023

Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lake Shore

Plant Greenhouse

SUMMARY:

Background: The Natural Resources staff is routinely unable to find locally genetic stock of native plants to aid in restoration of disturbed areas. Constructing a greenhouse facility will allow for collection and propagation of native seeds from within the NPS boundaries.

Deliverables:

Contractor will only supply and deliver. The total quoted cost will reflect supply and delivery of the Greenhouse structure, glazing, fixtures, accessories, and detailed instructions for construction and operation. Clearly indicate greenhouse dimensions, materials, components, fasteners, doors, hardware, equipment, supplementary support or bracing, and controls. For greenhouses indicated to comply with design loads, include structural analysis data and shop drawings signed and sealed by qualified professional engineer responsible for their preparation.

Deliver materials to:

Sleeping Bear Dunes

12447 Wisniewski Rd.

Empire, Michigan 49630

1.4 RIDGE

A. An extruded aluminum ridge shall be furnished to be placed at the peak of the structure.

1.5 GABLE ENDRAFTER

A. Specially extruded gable and corner trim shall be provided to receive roof glazing bar, vertical side and gable glazing and glazing bars. The gable and corner trim shall be neatly mitered and spliced at the ridge to provide a smooth detail at this point.

1.6 WALL AND VENT SILLS

A. Extruded aluminum sills shall be provided where required. Sills shall be capable of receiving side vents or fixed glazing. Sill corners shall be shop welded.

1.7 GLAZING BARS

A. Extruded aluminum glazing bars. System to include aluminum bar caps with santoprene gaskets or equivalent. Caps shall be designed to exert a uniform, but not excessive pressure on the entire length of the glazing panel. Bar caps shall be held in place with stainless steel hex head screws with stainless steel bonded washer.

1.8 RIDGE & SIDE WALL VENTS

A. Provide independent continuous double ridge & side wall vents.

B. All vents shall operate with rack & pinion arms on 1.315" diameter galvanized steel drive shaft.

C. Shaft hangers with self-lubricating sinter-bronze bearing shall be provided to support vent drive shafts.

D. Racks to be attached to bottom rail of vents with aluminum clips and stainless-steel bolt or cotter pins. No less than two sets of rack and pinion arms shall be provided for each bay per run of vents.

E. Drive motors: Lock EWA-10 120v/1ph operated but environmental control system.

1.9 GLAZING

A. UV protected double or triple-wall polycarbonate panels with light transmission of at least 80% and R-value of at least 1.5. Full 47 1/4" wide panels to be used wherever possible.

1.10 VENT SCREENS

A. Provide 6/18 mesh aluminum insect screens set in aluminum frames for all vent openings.

Passage of vent arms through screens to be sealed by brushes that are compatible with conditions found in a greenhouse environment.
