About this file

This is a Project Overview document for wayfinding sign repair and replacement services at Gettysburg National Military Park in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, issued by the National Park Service.

The project involves repairs to a 60" x 102" highway-graded wayfinding sign on Highway 15 North (coordinates 39.734819, -77.297984) that was recently struck by a vehicle, causing damage to the breakaway hardware, sign facing, and overlay. The National Park Service seeks a PennDOT certified or licensed contractor to: replace broken breakaway items including bolts and flanges; replace the sign overlay with edits to reflect updated visitor guidance; update the corresponding southbound sign on Highway 15 South near Hunterstown Road exit at Mile Marker 14 (coordinates 39.911179, -77.165802) with either an adhesive overlay or total re-facing as appropriate; secure individual sign panels; hang the sign on existing concrete foundations; change the bottom message to read "Use Business 15 Steinwehr Exit" on both signs; and provide temporary traffic control during repairs. The contractor must submit a draft sign design for approval prior to manufacturing. The document includes photographs showing the damaged sign structure, the breakaway hardware base, concrete foundation anchors, and the southbound sign location that requires matching updates.

Gettysburg National Military Park

Gettysburg, PA

Eisenhower Highway Wayfinding Sign(s)

PROJECT OVERVIEW

NATIONAL PARK SERVICE

Eisenhower Highway Wayfinding Sign(s)

Overview:

Gettysburg National Military Park and Eisenhower National Historic Site have a highway graded wayfinding sign on Highway 15 North about a mile past the Maryland/Pennsylvania border (39.734819, - 77.297984). This sign was recently struck by a vehicle and the breakaway hardware and the sign facing, and overlay was damaged. The park is seeking a PENN DOT certified or licensed company to make repairs to the sign base breakaway hardware, erect the post, and replace the sign overlay. The sign overlay will require edits to the message to reflect current guidance, and a similar edit to the parks southbound sign will also be required. Sign is 60” x 102”.

Specifications:

The contractor shall provide all necessary temporary traffic control required during repairs.

The contractor shall replace the “breakaway” items that were broken including bolts and flanges.

The contractor shall replace the sign overlay. The sign will require edits as the visitor guidance for the sign has changed.

The contractor shall update the sign overlay on the corresponding sign located on 15 South near

Hunterstown Rd exit, Mile Marker 14, (39.911179, -77.165802). The edit can be an adhesive overlay that matches/blends with existing sign, or can be proposed as total re-facing if appropriate.

The contractor shall secure the individual panels of the sign to each other.

The contractor shall hang the sign back on the existing concrete foundations.

The contractor shall change the message on the bottom half of the sign to read “Use Business 15

Steinwehr Exit”, and replicate that for the Southbound sign.

The contractor shall provide a draft of sign design for approval prior to sign manufacturing.
