About this file

This document is a Salient Characteristics specification (S24165) detailing requirements for a Digital Temperature Cable (String) system. The specification outlines technical requirements for an underwater temperature monitoring system consisting of a submersible Kevlar-reinforced digital output cable with integrated temperature sensors.

The main component must feature titanium thermistors in protective housing for underwater deployment, with temperature sensor nodes spaced at 10-foot intervals and a 1-foot pigtail after the 25th node. Key technical specifications include: measurement accuracy of ±0.075°C, 0.01°C resolution, RS-485 Modbus RTU bus communication, operating temperature range of 0-45°C, 2-second measurement intervals, 200m depth rating, and 4-28 VDC power compatibility. The system includes three additional components: a 15m underwater receptacle to flying lead cable, a 15m underwater plug to receptacle extension cable, and an underwater sensor port plug. The cable features UV-stabilized polyurethane jacket construction, braided Kevlar core, and flexible strain reliefs, with sensor nodes no larger than 1.4 inches in diameter.

Salient Characteristics

S24165

Digital Temperature Cable (String)

SALIENT CHARACTERISTICS:

1 ea. Digital Temperature Cable (String):

1. Shall consist of a submersible Kevlar reinforced digital output cable with integral temperature sensors for temperature profiling applications.

2. Shall incorporate integral titanium thermistors secured in a protective housing for underwater deployments in fresh, brackish, or seawater.

3. Cable shall incorporate a heavy wall, UV-stabilized polyurethane jacket, braided Kevlar core and flexible strain reliefs on both ends.

4. Shall include temperature sensor nodes spaced at 10 ft. intervals with a with a 1-foot pigtail after the

25th node.

5. Shall have a measurement accuracy of +/- 0.075°C and resolution of 0.01°C, or better.

6. Shall transmit data on a RS-485 Modbus RTU bus with pass-through signals to allow for connection of additional sensors (water quality, depth, etc.) to the end of the string.

7. Shall be capable of operating over a temperature range from at least 0 to 45o C.

8. Shall have a measurement (temperature update) interval of 2 seconds.

9. Shall have a depth rating of at least 200 m.

10. Shall be capable of being powered from an external 4-28 VDC power from a 12 or 24 VDC power supply.

11. Sensors shall not require re-calibration.

12. Shall terminate in a plug and receptacle connector, allowing the user to expand the string by purchasing additional sections.

13. Sensor node bodies/molds shall be no larger than 1.4 inches in size/diameter.

1 ea. Receptacle to Flying Lead Cable:

14. Shall consist of a 15 m underwater receptacle to flying lead cable.

1 ea. Plug to Receptacle:

15. Shall consist of a 15 m underwater plug to receptacle extension cable.

1 ea. Sensor Port Plug:

16. Shall consist of an underwater sensor port plug.
