12,000 Watts plus-Peak Power amplifier or greater 2 to 4 GHz.
The Electronic Proving Ground (EPG) requires a new self-contained, rugged, reliable, integrated cooled, expandable, broadband solid-state microwave amplifier designed for pulse application with low duty factors with instantaneous bandwidth and high gain. The unit, at a minimum, will deliver 12,000 watts (P3dB) or more of peak RF pulse power at the amplifier output connector in the frequency band 2 to 4 GHz.
Amplifier will have:
Performance monitoring and systems reporting to include current, voltage, temperature down to the pallet and device level.
Distributed Power Supplies No external cabling, full back plane implementation Scalable RF power. Modules can be added to increase output RF power to a rated 22,000 watts without adding additional racks.
Hot swappable, full-integrated amplifier chassis. Amplifier will be modular in design for easy access and repair of the power supply and RF components.
System will remain operational and “on the air” with graceful power degradation.
o In the event of an RF component failure or high VSWR condition o Loss of an amplifier booster- fractional reduction of system output power
Front panel digital display that measures simultaneous peak, rms and envelope detection. Current implementation displays peak or RMS as chosen by the customer and depending in the type of signal. Envelop detection is used for protection only and not intended for routine display.
o Peak detector – measures forward and reverse power, overall input power.
Excessive peak results in power back off o RMS detector - measures forward and reverse power, overall input power o Envelope detector – used to measure peak power and to trigger fast protection – e.g. input overdrive Performance monitoring and systems reporting – current, voltage, temperature – down to the pallet and device level.
Waveguide combiner and directional coupler with forward and reverse sample ports.
Built-in control, monitoring and protection features.
VSWR Protection Duty cycle protection Over temperature protection Cooling protection, pressure, flow TTL gating, Gain control.
Integrated sample ports for monitoring forward and reverse power.
Built in directional coupler and be capable of accurate power metering within ±0.5 dB.
Configurable to deliver maximum available output power for complex waveform and pulse transmission scenarios.
Rugged design that will allow for movement and installation.
Housed in a contemporary cabinet and will include wheels, leveling feet, and lifting hooks.
System configuration will have sufficient cooling to keep amplifier system cool during operation over the operating temperature range. If a liquid cooling system is provided it will be integrated with the high power amplifier. Cooling mechanisms will be supplied with the amplifier and identified in proposal.
Duty cycles longer than the pulsed amplifier duty-cycle specification can be allowed based on amplifier rated peak power and duty-cycle are not exceeded over the period of the time constraint of the detector. A warning will be provided, without shutdown, when the duty cycle has been exceeded but the RMS level are within the amplifiers’ output capabilities.
Capable of asymmetrical pulse train operations.
Configurable to operate in automatic level control, automatic gain control or manual gain control.
All amplifier control functions and status indications will be available remotely via ethernet and RS-422 serial interface and provides positive control of local or remote operations down to the device level.
