Section C - Descriptions and Specifications
PERFORMANCE WORK STATEMENT
Performance Work Statement (PWS) Service Contract for the QIAcube HT / QIAxtractor
Introduction A service contract for the Qiagen QIAcube HT / QIAxtractor is needed for continued operation of the instrument.
This is a patented instrument and only a Qiagen certified company capable of support, maintenance, or upgrades to ensure manufacturing specifications are maintained is required.
Mission The Environmental Processes Branch (EPP) of the ERDC Environmental Laboratory supports customer/stakeholder decision making for the Corps, the Army, and the DOD by providing research and technical expertise in the area of toxicology, systems biology, conservation, microbiology, soil science and beyond. The Environmental Microbiology Team (EMT) study remediation of contaminated sites and bacterial processes to meet customer needs.
The QIAcube HT / QIAxtractor allows EMT researchers to isolate nucleic acid and proteins from environmentally relevant samples.
A service contract for the Qiagen QIAcube HT/QIAxtractor will provide uninterrupted service of the instrument and enable the EMT to continue meeting project goals.
Background
The US Army Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC), Environmental Laboratory (EL), Environmental Processes Branch (EP-P) requires means to monitor how stressors and/or contaminants impact microbes, insects, birds, and mammals, remediation strategies for contaminated sites, and the fate and transport of contaminants through the environment. The Qiagen QIAcube HT/QIAxtractor allows EMT members to isolate protein and nucleic acids for downstream analyses to determine characteristics of environmental samples. From this, the EMT are able to determine what bacteria are capable of performing the task at hand and which bacteria are capable of degrading a contaminant at a contaminated site. Such information is critical in proposing remediation strategies to stakeholders for contaminated sites.

In addition to the changes otherwise authorized by the changes clause of this contract, should the FPCON or HPCON levels at any individual facility or installation change, the Government may implement security changes that affect contract personnel. The Contractor shall ensure all contract personnel are aware of their security responsibilities, including any site-specific requirements identified in local policies or procedures.
