About this file
This document is a Salient Characteristics specification detailing the technical requirements for an Acoustic Backscatter System (ABS) for the U.S. Geological Survey. The system consists of four main components: (1) an ABS profiler system capable of measuring suspended sediment concentrations using up to 4 transducers with frequencies from 500 kHz to 4 MHz, (2) a 3 MHz cabled transducer, (3) a transducer holder capable of mounting up to 5 transducers, and (4) a battery pack providing 10 days of autonomous operation.
The ABS profiler must measure particle sizes between 20-500 μm radius and concentrations of 0.01-20 g/l over 1m range, collect profiles up to 10m with 2.5-40mm vertical resolution, and operate at depths up to 1,000m. Key features include 8GB internal memory, temperature sensor (-2 to 35°C), pressure sensor (100 bar range), RS-232 and USB communications, biofouling/corrosion resistance, and 12 VDC power compatibility. The system must include Windows software for setup and data processing, transport case, lab power supply, maintenance kit, and calibration certificate. This procurement is a small business set-aside under NAICS 334513, with quotes due February 20, 2025, and planned award date of March 10, 2025.
