ENVIRONMENTAL DATA BUOY SYSTEM

Salient Characteristics

Data Buoy

2 ea. Environmental Data Buoy System:

1. Shall consist of a compact, self-powered, customizable, floating platform (data buoy) system that supports topside and subsurface environmental monitoring sensors such as weather stations, meteorological sensors, wave sensors, multiparameter water quality sondes, acoustic Doppler profilers, and other related sensors.

2. The buoy shall be fitted with (3) 15-watt solar panels with a waterproof termination for charging up to

(2) 28 Amp-Hr batteries.

3. The buoy shall support mounting of both topside and subsurface sensors. Shall include a top plate for mounting an LED beacon, weather station mast and other sensor supports. The plate shall accommodate passage of multiple sensor cables and connectors up to 1.5 inches in diameter.

4. The buoy shall be fitted with an integral waterproof compartment (data well), with feed-through gland fittings and watertight connectors, that provides adequate space for batteries and instrumentation.

5. Shall be capable of providing at least 250 lbs. of buoyancy.

6. The buoy structure shall consist of an internal stainless-steel frame with topside lifting and subsurface mooring eyes for both single-point and two-point moorings. The frame shall support attachment of instrument mounting cages directly below the center of the buoy.

7. The buoy shall include a bottom stainless steel instrument cage with mooring eye for securing instrument clamps to accommodate water quality sondes and other subsurface sensors. The cage shall be removable for ease of maintenance and storage when not deployed.

8. Shall include three (3) 2-inch pass-through holes with 2-inch NPT female threads to allow sensor pass-through and accommodate deployment pipes below the buoy.

9. The flotation component (hull) shall be yellow in color in accordance with international data buoy standards.

10. The buoy shall allow adequate topside space to accommodate various telemetry modules including radio, cellular, Iridium satellite and WiFi.

2 ea. Battery Harness:

11. Shall consist of a battery harness with integral solar regulator, 28 A-Hr battery, and tie-down.

2 ea. Data Well Lid:

12. Shall consist of a pass-through lid assembly, for the data well, with plugs and cable gland fittings.

13. Shall include 6 ports for sensor cables, a solar tower connection port, and a battery vent port.

14. Shall include battery harness cable adapter, power bulkhead connector with wiring.

15. Shall include all necessary fittings, retainers, o-rings, and o-ring grease.

2 ea. Solar Marine Light:

16. Shall consist of a self-contained solar-powered LED marine light with flange mount.

17. Shall have yellow output and be capable of producing 15 flashes per minute.

18. Shall have a nautical range of 1 to 3 miles.

19. Shall be capable of operating on user replaceable AA NiMH batteries with an operating life of at least 5 years.

20. Shall have an IP rating of IP68 and be capable of operating over a temperature range from at least -30 to

50o C.

21. Shall include programming remote and buoy mounting hardware.

2 ea. Bulkhead Connector Assembly:

22. Shall consist of an RF bulkhead connector assembly with 1m pigtail with male SMA connector.

23. Shall have an N-Style female connector on bulkhead.

24. Shall include O-ring and nut for connection to the lid.

2 ea. RF Extension Cable:

25. Shall consist of a 2-ft RF extension cable with type N male connectors on each end.

4 ea. Zinc Anode:

26. Shall consist of a sacrificial zinc anode that attaches to the buoy and provides cathodic protection.

2 ea. Instrument Offset Mount:

27. Shall consist of an offset mount that attaches to the top of the buoy to facilitate attachment of sensors, beacons, or other devices.

28. Shall include all necessary mounting hardware (i.e. bolts, washers)

29. Mounting hardware shall be made of stainless-steel.
