Salient Characteristics Special Order S23068
CABLEWAY GAGING SYSTEM
Salient Characteristics
General:
1. Shall consist of a remote-controlled, self-propelled, portable cableway towing system for facilitating discharge measurements at rivers and streams.
2. Shall be capable of being added to existing USGS cableways over rivers or steams for performing Acoustic Doppler Current Profilers (ADCP), or radar velocity, flow- and discharge measurements.
3. Shall consist of a carriage/hoist/electric motor assembly and wireless remote control for moving, lowering, and positioning ADCP boats, or radars, from the riverbank.
4. Shall include safety features to prevent accidental detachment and reduce the risk of injury to field personnel.
5. Shall include a built-in device (such as an encoder) for distance measurement across the stream.
6. Shall be capable of “locking” onto the cableway cable to prevent accidental detachment.
7. Shall be capable of operating on steel cables from 0.63” to 1.26” in diameter.
8. Shall be capable of operating by wireless remote control.
9. Shall be capable of distance measurement resolution of at least 0.01 m (0.01 ft) resolution.
10. Shall include a feature that “automatically” returns the carriage to the user, or home position if radio communication is lost.
11. Shall be capable of operating from 12VDC external power and monitoring the carriage battery voltage/current draw.
12. Shall be capable of adjustable traversing speeds up to at least 0.6 m/sec (2 ft/sec).
13. Shall have braking system feature that activates when unit is stationery and releases when remote control is switched off allowing manual retrieval.
14. Shall include a horn, or other audible feature, to alert swimmers, boaters, canoes, etc. who are in close proximity of the system during use.
15. Shall include a breakaway kit for safety purposes.
16. System shall include heavy duty transport case(s) for all components.
Wireless Remote Control:
17. Shall be portable and hand-held.
18. Shall have variable speed control capabilities for raising and lowering cable, forward and reverse control, and speed control.
19. Shall have a communication range of at least 1,000 ft (300 m) by line of sight.
20. Shall be capable of operating in radio frequency range from 902 to 926 MHz.
21. Shall be capable of operating from rechargeable AA batteries and include a built-in charger.
22. Shall include a backlit LCD user interface and LED indicators for communication and error conditions.
23. Shall include an “emergency stop” switch/function for safety purposes and be capable of activating the horn, or other audible alert feature.
Hoist:
24. Shall be capable of operating on 12VDC external power.
25. Shall have a lifting capacity of at least 200 lbs.
26. Shall include integral synthetic rope at least 12.2 m (40 ft) long.
27. Shall include an “auto-stop” feature for safety purposes.
28. Shall include necessary mounting hardware.
