About this file

This is a Salient Characteristics document (S26054) that specifies requirements for a Carbon Flux Sensor procurement. The requirement calls for two Carbon Flux Sensors that function as all-in-one, turnkey ecological monitoring units combining wind and high-frequency gas measurements for direct Eddy Covariance CO₂ flux measurements. Each sensor must sample CO₂ concentration at 10 Hz with processed flux output every 30 minutes, maintain a CO₂ measurement range of 0 to 1500 µmol mol⁻¹ with 1.5% accuracy, and H₂O measurement range of 0 to 60 mmol mol⁻¹ with 1.5% accuracy. Additional sensor requirements include air temperature, pressure, relative humidity, and photosynthetically active radiation measurements, along with a broadband infrared gas analyzer with modulated light source and no moving parts or active temperature controls.

The sensors must include built-in GPS, tilt and orientation sensors (magnetometer/accelerometer), and embedded processing features for on-site computation with Cloud integration for diagnostics and data access. Power specifications require operation from 12 VDC (nominal) or standard USB 2.0 or newer, consuming no more than 1.5 watts with solar power compatibility. Communication interfaces must include SDI-12, RS-232, and USB-micro, with capability to output raw data via RS-232 and flux data via SDI-12. Each sensor requires a removable 8 GB microSD card, operates from -25 to 50°C, and includes a 5-meter power/communication cable. The procurement also includes one 25-meter extension cable (shielded and compatible with the sensor) and two 5-year service agreements covering extensive damage replacement, manufacturing defect repair or replacement, free loaner units during repair, prioritized service, free return and priority shipping, two free calibrations, and cavity replacement for trace gas analyzer components.
