About this file

This document is a Salient Characteristics specification for an Unmanned Surface Vehicle (USV) system designed for flow measurements and bathymetry surveys. The specification details requirements for one portable, inflatable, self-propelled, battery-powered, remote-controlled USV that must interface with a Sontek Model M9 Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler (ADCP) and Power Communications Module. The USV shall be one-person deployable and capable of both autonomous moving boat and stationary discharge measurements, with underwater thrusters capable of producing speeds up to 4 m/s and towed measurement capability.

The system shall include a handheld remote/controller with a 5-inch color screen, data and video link with a minimum 1 km transmitter range, dual GNSS with heading and RTK options, and autonomous waypoint-based navigation with position hold and return-to-home functionality. The USV must be powered by standard off-the-shelf Dewalt-compatible 18-volt rechargeable batteries, support Bluetooth and Wi-Fi communications, and operate for at least 6 hours on a single charge. Additional requirements include a front-facing HD 1080p camera with live streaming, dimensions not exceeding 1.7 m x 0.8 m x 0.1 m, weight not to exceed 15 lbs without batteries, operating temperature range from -10°C to 45°C, and comprehensive software for mission planning, system setup, and operation. The system shall be delivered with accessories including an inflation pump, patch kit, mounting hardware for the M9 and Power Communications Module, carry bag, spare propellers, and required interface cabling.
