About this file

This is a Salient Characteristics document that specifies the technical requirements for a Current Profiling System for discharge measurements, being solicited by the USGS Hydrologic Instrumentation Facility. The system must be a portable, self-contained, five-beam Broadband Acoustic Doppler Current Profiling (ADCP) system for measuring discharge in rivers and streams.

The required system includes detailed specifications for an ADCP unit that must operate at 3 MHz frequency, have a profiling range of 0.1 to 6m, sampling frequency of at least 1 Hz, and velocity resolution of 0.001 m/s or better. The complete package must include an RTK GPS positioning system, flotation platform (no larger than 21" x 31"), ruggedized transport case, and software for data visualization and processing. Additional requirements specify Bluetooth connectivity with 100m range, IP67 waterproof rating, rechargeable battery with 7-hour life, and operating temperature range of -5 to 45°C. An adapter kit for use with larger flotation platforms is also required. The solicitation (140G0125Q0064) is scheduled to be issued around 2/25/2025, with quotes due 3/4/2025, and anticipated award date of 3/31/2025. This is a full and open competition under NAICS code 334513 with a size standard of 750 employees.
