About this file
This document outlines salient characteristics for a multi-parameter water quality sonde solicitation. The solicitation seeks a sonde with at least seven sensor ports compatible with replaceable sensors for measurements including temperature, conductivity, pH, dissolved oxygen, turbidity, depth, rhodamine, ORP, total algae, FDOM, total dissolved and suspended solids, ammonium, chloride, and UV nitrate. Additional requirements include Bluetooth and various communication protocols, internal data logging capacity of over one million readings, a sample rate of at least four Hertz, an operating temperature range of negative five to fifty degrees Celsius, dimensions of no more than three inches in diameter and twenty inches in length, automatic sensor recognition in any port, wet-mateable connectors, status indicator LEDs, a removable bail, and compatible software for instrument management, data visualization, organization, live and recorded data viewing, sensor calibration, deployment setup, and graphical data analysis. The related solicitation is for a multi-parameter sonde meeting the outlined salient characteristics and is issued by the Department of the Interior US Geological Survey Office of Acquisitions and Grants.

Salient Characteristics
MULTI-PARAMETER WATER QUALITY SONDE
Salient Characteristics
Multi-Parameter Water Quality Sondes without battery:
1. Shall consist of a multi-parameter water quality sonde with at least 7 ports for compatible user-replaceable sensors and a central wiper system.
2. Shall be powered from an external 12 VDC power source only and require no internal batteries.
3. Shall be compatible with a range of sensors including, but not limited to, temperature, conductivity, pH, dissolved oxygen, turbidity, depth, rhodamine, ORP, total algae, FDOM, total dissolved and suspended solids, ISE ammonium, ISE chloride, and UV nitrate.
4. Shall be capable of supporting SDI-12, RS-232, and USB communications.
5. Shall include wireless Bluetooth communications.
6. Shall have internal data logging with ability to store at least 1,000,000 readings.
7. Shall have a sample rate of at least 4 Hz.
8. Shall operate over a temperature range from at least -5 to 50o C.
9. Shall be no larger than 3.0 inches in diameter and 20 inches in length.
10. Shall the ability to auto-recognize any sensor in any port.
11. Shall include “wet-mateable” connectors allowing cable changes in wet conditions and providing protection against corrosion.
12. Shall include LED indicators for sonde status and Bluetooth status.
13. Shall include a removable bail for suspending the sonde.
14. Shall include compatible software that allows users to manage, visualize, and organize field data collected from a sonde. In addition, the software shall support:
- viewing live and recorded data,
- sensor calibration,
- managing deployment of a sonde (setup sonde for unattended logging),
- a graphical user interface for data analysis.
