PERFORMANCE WORK STATEMENT

Installation of Milli-Q IQ 7000(or Equal) Purification system Background The Radiogenic Isotope lab (RIL) at Geology, Minerals and Science Center (GEM) requires a replacement of Millipore Unit that dispenses ASTM (American Society for Testing and Materials) type-1 water. The geochemical analysis in the lab includes the analyses of rock, soil, sediments, minerals, water, and biological materials that need the ASTM and type -1 water. These analyses are critical to all the RIL projects in the GEM Science center. The type-1 water is used to rinse the lab apparatus and is used as a feed water for the lab distillation process to get ultraclean water (Water with very low contents of metals and other environmental contaminants). The ultraclean water is used for further cleaning of the lab apparatus, to make reagents and for all the geochemical analyses in the RIL.

Scope Services, non-personal, to provide all equipment, labor, travel, and materials including parts necessary for installing the water purification system and verifying its performance post installation.

Work Requirements and Standards

1. Contractor shall plumb the system using building deionized water as source

2. Contractor shall install dispensing unit on counter or on wall next to sink.

3. Contractor shall test the flow and performance of system verifying that it generates:

· Type-I ultrapure water, supplied at a rate specified by product literature (likely max rate of 2L/min)

· 18.2 mega-ohm, 0.055 µS/cm conductivity, and TOC levels not to exceed 2ppb

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS

1. The contractor shall verify that source water meets requirements and that product water produced by system achieves desired levels of purification.

2. The contractor shall complete installation in 1 business day

3. The contractor shall coordinate installation with laboratory manager

4. The contractor shall check in at the Visitor’s Entrance of the USGS National Center to acquire a visitor’s badge and must be accompanied by a designated USGS employee while the contractor is within the building.

Quality Assurance Surveillance Plan

· For the first year of operation, the laboratory managers will periodically run TOC and trace element blanks and confirm that system is producing Type-I ultrapure water with delivery rate of 2 L/min or better (18.2 mega-ohm, 0.055 µS/cm conductivity, and TOC levels not to exceed 2ppb). If system does not continue to meet these standards, contractor will provide additional service to bring system to compliance.
