A. Stop Logs: Each log shall be molded individually to the exact dimensions required to achieve the stop log stack dimensions specified in construction drawings. The stop logs shall be fabricated by means of vacuum infusion to achieve a monolithic (seamless) fiberglass reinforced plastic (FRP) covering that totally encapsulates the internal structural matrix to ensure protection from moisture infiltration or chemical deterioration. The front and back facings of each stop log shall have a minimum (FRP) thickness of ¼ inch (6mm); remaining perimeters shall feature a minimum FRP thickness of ¾ inch (19mm). Seams or joints that may allow water intrusion will not be accepted. The maximum fiber stress (ultimate or yield, whichever applies) of the stop logs shall exceed 2.5 times the working stress.
Stop logs shall be manufactured of reinforced thermoset copolymer resin containing ultraviolet absorbers. The surface shall be resin-rich (comprised of 95% resin) to a depth of 0.010 inches (2.5mm) to 0.020 inches (5mm) and shall be free of exposed reinforcing fibers.
The core FRP shall consist of copolymer composite and reinforcing fibers formed to achieve the mechanical requirements.
Internal steel reinforcing structure shall be welded per AWS standards, sandblasted, and coated with epoxy vinyl ester resin to ensure thorough bonding with the copolymer composite. Core materials shall be 100% resistant to fungal and bacterial decay and hydrocarbon effects.
All stop logs shall be level and flat.
Deflection: Maximum allowable deflection of each stop log shall be less than L/360 of the channel width or 1/4", whichever is less at the maximum operating head.
B. Seals: Stop logs shall be equipped with bottom seals to seal between the between the stacked logs. Vertical seals shall be mounted to the end of the stop log panels to achieve a sealed contact with the guide railing. Seals shall consist of molded EPDM with hardness of 55 to 65 Shore A Durometer, conforming to ASTM D-2000, with a maximum compression set of 25%, and low temperature brittleness to meet suffix F-17 (40°F). Closed cell elastomers and hard plastic surfaces will not be acceptable.
C. Lifting Pins: Stop logs shall be supplied with two permanently embedded 1-1/2" diameter stainless steel lifting pins that shall pass completely through the log. The lifting pins shall be sufficiently fastened to the log to within stand the lifting force.
The lifting pin holes that pass through the logs shall not make contact with the internal steel reinforcement.
D. Guide Frames: Guide frames shall be designed for embedment / in-channel and shall have a slot suitable for mating with the stop log panels. The embedded guide frame can be fastened to the structure by either: (1.) inserting and grouting the guide frame into an established block-out, or (2.) casting the concrete structure with the embedded guide frame fixed in place.
E. Head Pressure: The stop log system shall be designed for a maximum head pressure as per gate schedule.
F. Lifting Beam: The lifting beam shall be compatible with the stop log system, and shall be capable of lifting the each stop log by automatically latching to the 1-1/2” diameter lifting pins of the upper stacked log.
TP – 6503 MATERIALS:
A. Guides: Guide frames shall be manufactured of T-316 stainless steel or reinforced copolymer.
B. Stop Logs: Stops logs shall be engineered composite fiberglass reinforced plastic
(FRP) completely encapsulating an internal steel reinforcing structure. The stop logs shall be infusion molded to create a seamless corrosion barrier impervious to moisture. The FRP resin shall be polyester. The internal steel reinforcement shall be carbon steel.
C. Stop Logs Seals and Embedded / In-Channel Seals: All seals shall be molded
EPDM.
D. Lifting Pins: Shall be made of T-316 stainless steel.
