STATEMENT OF WORK (SERVICES)
(SOW)
GENERAL INFORMATION
Title of Project:
Biological Analysis Core: National Institute on Aging (NIA), Murine Senescence Mapping Program (MSMP)
Statement of Need and Purpose:
The bioanalysis core was established as part of the Common Fund’s Cellular Senescence Network (SenNet) Program. The SenNet program “was established to comprehensively identify and characterize the differences in senescent cells across the body, across various states of human health, and across the lifespan. SenNet will provide publicly accessible atlases of senescent cells, the differences among them, and the molecules they secrete, using data collected from multiple human and model organism tissues.” Mice have been selected as one of the model organisms. Part of phase one (1) of the studies in mice will achieve this by Immunohistochemical (IHC) staining of multiple tissues with established markers for senescent cells, providing the first screen of senescent cells across tissues and age in both male and female mice from several strains.
Background Information and Objective:
The National Institutes of Health (NIH) Study of Longitudinal Aging in Mice (SLAM) project led by the intramural program of the NIA, provides an actively expanding biorepository of mouse physiological analyses and collected tissues. These tissues will enable broad multi-tissue characterization of cellular senescence across sex, age, and strain. The objective of this new requirement is to expand the use of the collected tissues to define an atlas of senescence. The data acquired from these new analyses will be directly integrated and compared to the data from the ongoing SLAM project.
Period of Performance:
September 1, 2022 – August 31, 2023 with four (4) option years.
SCOPE OF WORK
General Requirements:
Independently and not as an agent of the Government, the Contractor shall furnish all the necessary services, qualified personnel, material, equipment, and facilities, not otherwise provided by the Government as needed to perform the Statement of Work below:
• The establishment of staining protocols (initial setup of staining) on five (5) different tissues with five (5) different antibodies, ensuring the quality and end product meets the governments quality standards.
• Preparation of 6,535 slides on plus charged slides from samples provided by the government.
• IHC staining of the 6,535 slides to be delivered to the government for analysis.
Specific Requirements:
The contractor shall establish the conditions for staining of tissues for five (5) different tissues with five (5) different selected antibodies. Once conditions have been established and staining determined to be satisfactory by the government, 6,535 slides shall be prepared on plus charged slides from samples provided by the government. Immunohistochemical (IHC) staining shall be performed on the 6,535 slides with the antibodies provided by the government.
Following completion of the preparation and staining, the slides shall be delivered to the government. Upon completion of the project, the sample blocks shall be returned to the government. The contractor shall provide deliverables in a timely manner (that is as the samples are being processed and stained) so that review and analysis of the samples which is essential to the development and completion of the project can be performed.
GOVERNMENT RESPONSIBILITIES
The government will provide the samples to be used in the preparation of the slides and the antibodies for staining the prepared slides.
DELIVERY OR DELIVERABLES
The contractor shall provide the following:
• Slides for review of the initial staining setup. In addition, once the protocols have been established for staining the contractor shall provide 6,535 slides prepared on positive charged slides.
• Monthly reporting of the progress to include: a detailed list of protocols established;
progress on slides generated, and progress on the staining of the slides. Progress on the staining should include which slides have been stained (linked to the tissue block of sample provided), the antibody used to stain each slide, and any problems or issues that may have been encountered in the staining or preparation of each specific slide. This report can be in the form of an excel table or other format that the contractor prefers but must be complete, timely and accurate.
OTHER CONSIDERATIONS
Data Rights:
The National Institute on Aging shall have unlimited rights to and ownership of all deliverables provided under this contract including reports, recommendations, briefings, work plans and all other deliverables. This includes the deliverables provided under the basic contract and any optional task deliverables exercised by the contracting officer. In addition, it includes any additional deliverables required by contract change. The definition of “unlimited rights” is contained in Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) 27.401, “Definitions.”
