This toilet to include raptor protecon screen on vent stack, grab bars, toilet paper bar, door sweeps, signage, and door closer. This toilet will be placed at 44 Trails Hub Trailhead, a high elevaon site where snow load and impact potenal are significant.

Construcon of this toilet needs to be of the highest strength and quality. Incoming toilet will be placed adjacent to the trailhead name sign and three panel informaon kiosks to the right as viewed from gravel parking lot. Locaon will be staked and painted on ground.

B. The Hood River Ranger District is also requesng the relocaon of the exisng single CXT vault toilet from Bennet Pass Sno-park to Polallie trailhead. Locaon will be staked and painted on ground. Distance is approximately 10 miles along the Hwy 35 corridor. Excavaon of the current toilet building and underground vault at Bennet Pass will be required in addion to excavaon of the new hole and placement of the exisng vault and toilet building at Polallie Trailhead.

Careful handling of the vault is required to prevent damage to the structure. The old vault hole at Bennet Pass Sno-park is to be filled in with nave soil and rock covered with ¾” minus gravel to a depth of 6”. The size of the hole to fill is approximately 7’ wide X 15’ long x 5’ deep. The material must be brought in from an outside source. Metal snowplow bollards must be removed from the Naonal Forest as well.

1.03 Installaon

A. Excavate for the installaon of the toilet vault to a depth that will allow the structure site to be free draining aer installaon is completed. Allow for a 2” leveling course beneath the toilet vault. Stockpile topsoil in a separate pile at sites.

B. Finish floor elevaon is 4-6” above natural grade measured at the front (entrance) of the exterior slab unless otherwise approved by the customer. Ideally, the back of the building should be slightly higher to allow water to freely drain out of the toilet rooms.

C. The Government may specify a finish floor elevaon for buildings at some sites. The contractor will install buildings at these sites with the floor elevaon within a plus or minus 0.05’ of the specified floor elevaon.

D. The hole dug to accommodate the vaults must be large enough to be workable and to allow the floor to the building to fit on the vaults when placed, but small enough to avoid excessive backfill aer placement (use your own judgement). Compact the natural ground at the botom of the vault excavaon with a minimum of three passes with a wacker-type mechanical compactor or equivalent approved by the customer.

E. Install aggregate bedding material for building support. Compact aggregate course with two passes with a wacker-type mechanical tamper or equivalent approved by the customer. Install leveling course of sand so there will be no high spots in the middle of the vault botom. Set vault in place. Ideally, the containment area end of the vault should be slightly higher; ¼” per foot of run to allow the building to sit higher. Ensure vault is level, side to side. Backfill around the structure. Use excavated material for backfill, rocks larger than 6” in maximum dimension shall not be placed within 6” of the exterior vault walls. Fill, adjacent to the building entry will have excavated material placed in 8” loose lis and compacted with a minimum of two (2) passes with a wacker-type mechanical compactor or equivalent approved by customer. Aer the vault is placed in the hole and backfilled, place the supplied butyl tape around the enre top surface of the vault. The area must be free of debris.
