About this file
This is a Technical Specifications document for a federal contract opportunity (140G0126Q0210) issued by the Department of the Interior, United States Geological Survey, Ecosystems Mission Area, Cooperative Research Units, Michigan Cooperative Fish and Wildlife Research Unit.
The requirement is for an unmanned surface vehicle (USV) equipped with side scan and bathymetric multibeam sonar systems. The USV must feature a catamaran hull design with maximum dimensions of 47 x 36.5 x 18 inches when deployed and 47 x 28 x 95 inches when folded for transport, weighing no more than 32 lbs. without payload or batteries. The vehicle must support a minimum payload capacity of 30 lbs. and achieve 18 hours of endurance. It must incorporate an open-source, completely customizable operating system and include comprehensive communications capabilities: wireless range of at least 200 meters with omnidirectional antennae and 800 meters with directional antenna, cellular communication, and a wireless controller for manual navigation. The USV must be equipped with a Cerulean Sonar Omniscan 3D 450 SS (or equivalent) 450-kHz 16-channel side scan sonar system and a Cerulean Surveyor Multibeam echosounder (or equivalent) 240 kHz 16-channel multibeam sonar with 80-degree swath and depth range to 100 meters with built-in IMU. Additional components include a 1080p USB camera rated to 400 meters depth, connectivity hardware with at least 3 serial UART ports, 1 ethernet port, 4 USB ports, dual ADCs, an ethernet switch for integrating multiple data sources, payload brackets, and readily available 14.8v 18 AH or greater lithium batteries. Delivery is required to the USGS Michigan Cooperative Research Unit in East Lansing, Michigan.
