Recommission existing HVAC System Springfield Armory / SPAR
1.0 PROJECT DESCRIPTION / SUMMARY:
The primary work of this project includes, but is not limited to, survey and recommission the existing HVAC system, and update the Building Management
System.
2.0 OBJECTIVES:
This project is intended to allow for the proper operation and maintenance of the existing HVAC system.
3.0 BACKGROUND:
The existing HVAC (Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioning) systems were installed under multiple construction contracts generated by different NPS agencies and most of the documentation is no longer available. The BAS (Building Automation System) interface for most of the HVAC is Delta Controls ORCA software which does not have a consistent graphical interface for the various HVAC systems. The control system is not connected to the internet.
The building has a basement and three above grade floors with an air handler for each floor with additional air handling and HVAC equipment of specific spaces.
Desired conditions:
Collection materials should be kept near 65 DegF, 48% RH.
Occupied areas can be warmer.
Some areas are mixed use.
3rd floor is mostly collection storage
2nd floor is half office and half collection storage.
1st floor is the display area for visitors
Known issues:
Not all actuators are known to be operational
Hot gas reheat does not work correctly due to installation and/or control issues.
Many points are in “manual” mode due to issues with the system.
Second floor air handler trips out on overloads.
Second floor scroll compressor not connected to control system.
Humidifiers are not working.
