About this file
This document is the National Library Service (NLS) Specification 1206:2025 for Digital Talking Book (DTB) Delivery Requirements, which details technical specifications for packaging and delivering digital talking books to the Library of Congress. The specification defines requirements for creating a single ZIP file deliverable containing uncompressed files, including an unprotected digital talking-book (DTB) ZIP file and a protected digital talking-book (PDTB) ZIP file, along with source WAV files.
Key technical requirements include using the UNIX "unzip" version 5.3.2, ensuring ZIP file entries have specific bit flag settings, and following strict file naming conventions based on a production identifier. Delivery is to be made through the NLS Transfer Portal (https://transfer.pics2.loc.gov/TransferPortal/), which requires producers to obtain a Single Sign-On account and submit an access request with detailed personnel, contract, and company information. The specification is part of a broader set of NLS standards for creating digital talking books for individuals with visual and physical limitations.
