Base Bid: Provide all equipment, labor, and materials necessary to:
Perform base repair(removal and backfill approximately 300 SY) on structurally failed asphalt, Mill and overlay asphalt parking lot (12,000 SY), Seal irregular and inaccessible areas with approved coal tar based sealant (approximately 1000 SY), Replace pavement markings, and replace traffic detector loops for gate access system.
Background – The current parking area and gin lot for the USDA ARS Stoneville Cotton Ginning Research Facility has been paved and/or microsealed a number of times through the years such that the average depth of existing structure is approximately 6” throughout the facility. The entire existing asphalt paved surface is exhibiting reflective cracking and block cracking to various degrees on most of the area as well as alligator cracking on approximately 300 SY of failed asphalt. Cores in this failed area showed severe stripping along with a saturated clay basement soils. This area needs the pavement to be removed and the clay to be excavated to a depth of 1’, backfilled with crushed 610 limestone compacted and paved to match existing grades before milling begins. Various crack sealing has been performed extensively and was topped with a coal tar based sealant. It is desired to mill and fill 1.5” of asphalt, all areas that are accessible to milling and paving machines, and seal the remaining irregular and inaccessible areas with an approved coal tar based sealant. Milling and paving operations should be coordinated such that the milled surface is covered within 4 weeks or less. The existing pavement houses detector loops for the gate controls and these loops will need to be replaced after asphalt placement. Likewise, existing pavement markings need to be replaced after paving and sealing are finished.

Task List:
• Sawcut existing asphalt pavement (approximately 6” in depth) around failed area (approx. 200 LF)
• Remove failed asphalt (approx. 300 SY)
• Excavate failed area basement soils to a depth of 1’ to establish a stable foundation for base repair
• Backfill failed area with a dense graded crushed limestone (610 gradation or approved equal) to a depth of
1’ and compact to a density of 95% standard proctor. All rolling to be done is static mode.
• Backfill repaired area with approximately 6” of 19mm Hot Mix Asphalt to match adjacent structure thickness and achieve a density of 92%. All rolling to be done in static mode.
• Perform cold milling to a target depth of 1.5” on entire paved parking area and gin lot where accessible to milling and paving equipment (approximately 12,000 SY).
• Apply trackless tack coat at a rate of 0.06 gal/SY to all milled surfaces
• Overlay milled and prepared surface with 9.5mm Hot Mix Asphalt and compact to a density of 92-95%. All rolling to be done in static mode.
• Apply Coal Tar based sealant on all old, irregular, and inaccessible asphalt surfaces that could not be reached with milling and paving.
