About this file

This document is an Assurance of Compliance with Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, issued by the County of San Mateo Contract Compliance Committee on August 5, 2013. The assurance applies to contractors entering into agreements with San Mateo County and requires compliance with Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, applicable Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) regulations, and all guidelines and interpretations issued pursuant to these regulations. Contractors must designate a Section 504 compliance coordinator if they employ 15 or more persons, providing the coordinator's name and contact information. Contractors employing fewer than 15 persons are exempt from this requirement, though they may be required to refer individuals with disabilities to accessible alternative service providers if making facilities accessible would require significant alterations.

The assurance is binding on the contractor, its successors, transferees, and assignees, and must be signed by an authorized official of the contracting entity. The document requires certification that the information provided is complete and correct and establishes that contracts will be extended in reliance on the representations and agreements made in the assurance. This compliance requirement applies to all San Mateo County contracts issued after the date of the assurance and serves as a condition for contract award and performance.
